Many people fall in love with Yu Lu at first sight, but find it difficult to grow themselves because it fears too much sunlight, excessive shading, high temperatures, and cold. It looks delicate, but it's actually quite easy to care for.
Yu Lu is a succulent plant from the Liliaceae family,十二卷属 (十二卷属), but it differs from some hard-leafed 十二卷属 succulents. Its leaves are relatively soft. There are many varieties of Yu Lu, with the most common being Jiyu Lu, Grass Yu Lu, and Large Yu Lu.
Different Yu Lu have different shapes, but they all look particularly crystal clear, cute, and compact, making them very suitable for growing into exquisite potted plants. A well-cared-for Yu Lu is very beautiful and charming.
So, how should we propagate Yu Lu?
In fact, many people choose to propagate by division. As Yu Lu grows, it will continuously produce young plants. When these young plants grow, you can directly break them off along with their roots. Division propagation can be done in both spring and autumn.
If some young plants do not have roots, simply dry the wound and then re-plant them in granular soil after a couple of days. Lightly water, and the young plants of Yu Lu can slowly be given some light, allowing them to recover and grow.
How to propagate Jiyu Lu
Actually, Yu Lu can also be propagated by leaf cutting, but you should choose robust and plump leaves with a little stem for propagation. The soil for planting should generally be made of vermiculite, coarse sand, or perlite, using granular soil that is breathable and has good drainage while also maintaining some water retention.
Yu Lu leaves should be inserted diagonally into the soil and the soil should be kept moist to ensure successful leaf propagation.
Yu Lu is very easy to grow and prefers a bright and warm environment. The care location should maintain a certain level of humidity, but avoid spraying water directly on the leaves. Also, maintain a warm environment as it fears the cold. The growth temperature should be kept between 20-30 degrees Celsius, and the temperature during winter cultivation should be kept above 7 degrees to avoid frostbite.
During the leaf cutting propagation process of Yu Lu, you should pick some robust leaves completely and let the wound dry, usually by placing them in a well-ventilated and sunny area for a couple of days. After the wound heals slightly, choose a small pot for propagation. It is recommended to use coarse sand for propagation, which can maintain moisture while providing good breathability and drainage, beneficial for the leaves of Yu Lu to root better.
The location for later care of Yu Lu does not require too much sunlight, nor should it be excessively shaded, otherwise, the plant will become too loose, and excessive sunlight can cause leaf sunburn.
If the sunlight is too strong, not only will it burn the leaves, but the leaves will turn red-brown, and the plant will shrivel and wither.
