How to plant succulents

Today, I will introduce to you how to plant succulents and the techniques and methods of succulent cultivation in the aspect of green plants and flowers. Next, the editor will provide an introduction.

Succulents come in many types and shapes, with various leaf shapes and plant forms. Compared to other potted flowers and plants, succulents generally have a smaller size, and they can be grown in small pots and even on small balconies, with less stringent light requirements.

Especially for the Crassulaceae family of succulents, they are even more robust and easy to care for. The color state of succulents also changes with the seasons. In spring and autumn, when it's relatively cool and there's ample sunlight, the leaves of many succulents change color, with some showing brighter edges and others displaying a whole leaf turning into a beautiful red. Succulents that have changed color become more attractive and eye-catching, enhancing their appearance.

Beginners in succulent cultivation don't need to choose expensive and rare succulents. It's best to choose robust and easy-to-care-for ones. Even ordinary, inexpensive succulents can look beautiful if well cared for, growing to full bloom and becoming old specimens that are both beautiful and pleasing to the eye.

To keep succulents healthy, several basic things need to be done properly, and then each pot of succulents can be kept in good condition throughout the year, surviving the summer and winter smoothly, with good growth and becoming more beautiful and enjoyable. Watching them fresh and vigorous, with elegant plant forms, really brings a good mood every day!

How to plant succulents

1. Good soil is crucial for succulents

Although succulents can survive in sand, to ensure they grow more smoothly, stronger, and more beautiful, soil is important. The potting soil should be loose, not sticky or compacted, and must be nutritious, well-draining, and not prone to waterlogging or compaction, with good aeration.

It should also have certain nutrients. Therefore, when preparing the soil, add peat and decomposed leaf soil, and you can also add sand, vermiculite, perlite, or other granular soils that don't clump together and are rich in humus. This type of soil allows succulents to grow continuously and become fatter and more attractive.

2. Light is important for succulents

When the temperature is between 15 and 28 degrees Celsius, this is the most suitable temperature for succulent growth and also the time when they grow fastest. During this period, you can increase sunlight, appropriately expose them to the outdoors, and also supplement nutrients, providing some fertilizer, a small amount of organic fertilizer, slow-release fertilizer, or chemical fertilizer. However, it's important to apply only a small amount at a time and not to over-fertilize.

Occasionally, you should loosen the soil and turn it over to keep it loose, well-aerated, and well-draining. In summer, when temperatures rise and sunlight becomes strong, don't place them under direct sunlight. Instead, put them under a shade shelter, on a north-facing balcony, or in a place with scattered light or semi-shade, with good ventilation. Lack of ventilation is also not conducive to their growth.
