How to propagate the plant Pogostemon cablin through cutting

This article introduces you to the propagation of Pogostemon cablin, focusing on how to cut it for propagation. Let's follow the editor to take a look!

I have previously purchased and shared others' Pogostemon cablin online, but every beautiful beginning has ended tragically. Many posts online boast about how each cutting of Pogostemon cablin survives, and I couldn't figure it out! Until recently, when I became interested in succulents, I suddenly realized that this is also a type of succulent. So, after crossing the battlefield of Pogostemon cablin cuttings covered with dead plants, I became more determined, kept trying, and after cutting the top of the plant, I let it dry in a ventilated place for 3 days, then planted it in moist soil, watered it, and used珍珠岩 (perlite) for cutting, employing all three methods together...

More than two weeks have passed, and not a single one of my more than ten Pogostemon cablin cuttings has rotted, and all have rooted! A survival rate of 100%!

The secret to successful Pogostemon cablin cutting propagation includes four aspects:

1. After cutting the top, the wound should be dried before planting. It doesn't matter if it takes longer, 1-2 weeks are fine, but the wound must be completely dry.

2. Plant in moist soil that is not watered through after planting. I used a spray bottle to spray water on the soil, spraying and stirring at the same time, making it easy to control the moisture level. If you can't squeeze water out of the soil when you squeeze it hard and it scatters when you let go, it's just right.

3. More leaves should be removed from the base of the cutting, which allows for deeper planting and easier root growth. Why do I say this? Because I found that the cuttings do not root from the dried wound part, but from the side of the main stem. This step of removing leaves should be done immediately after cutting the top, because removing leaves also creates wounds that need to be dried.

4. Plant in the shade without direct sunlight and do not water for two weeks. After about two weeks, the roots should have grown, and then you can water and expose to sunlight.
