When is it appropriate to water succulents? (Based on experience)

Succulent Watering Time

This article provides an introduction to succulent plants, focusing on watering times. Let's delve into the topic together.

Watering succulents and the methods involved have always been a困扰 for beginners. Although they try hard to learn, it's still difficult to grasp the key points. This article is the author's memo on watering succulents, based on three years of experience in raising them in the city. The following is personal experience, and everyone is welcome to add their own tips.

I. Watering and Temperature

The water in the pot decreases from more to less, and the soil moisture content can be divided into several states by the host: saturated (100%), wet (60%), damp (30%), dry (10%), and completely dry (0%).

A: 15-25 degrees, during the growing period, if you want the succulents to grow larger quickly, you can give more water, just keep it damp and ensure good ventilation.

B: Below 5 degrees or above 35 degrees, not during the growing period, cautious watering. When the soil is completely dry, give a little water vapor at the bottom to let the roots absorb it themselves. Quick immersion for 3-5 seconds can be used. In the summer, a misting method can also be used, misting until fine droplets like dew appear on the leaves, avoiding water drops and ensuring it dries by the next morning.

C: 5-15 degrees, 25-35 degrees, transition period. The watering frequency and amount of water given is between the above two methods, as an adaptation and transition period for the succulents. If you prefer a certain state throughout the year, you can water according to method B, at the cost of inhibiting growth to maintain color and tight, full leaves.

II. Watering and Potting Soil

Everyone chooses different pots and soil mixtures, and the soil's breathability and water retention time also differ. There is no fixed answer for watering frequency; you should judge the soil moisture content in the pot and water according to the principles mentioned above.

III. Before and After Watering

Always check the weather forecast, water only on consecutive sunny days. Above 25 degrees, it's best to shade the plants. If the leaves become soft after watering or the potting soil is in high temperature and humidity, it's very dangerous. Lack of UV light after watering can cause the plants to flatten, and continuous lack of UV light can cause them to stretch. During the rainy season or plum rain season, keep the potting soil dry. If you accidentally water too much or the plants get rained on, use a fan to dry them. Otherwise, they will flatten.

IV. Water and Fertilizer

Irregularly add carbendazim from April to October, and add flower care god from March to June, especially during the egg hatching period around the time of Jingzhe. Acid water promotes growth, adding a little dilute hydrochloric acid to tap water is equivalent to rainwater. Start adding monopotassium phosphate two months before the summer begins to make the plants stronger and healthier for the summer.
