How to plant cactus seeds

This is a small knowledge of green plants, introducing you to the topic of succulent cacti, how to plant cactus seeds, and here comes a comprehensive introduction.

The planting method of cactus seeds is very simple, and there are also many advantages to propagating cacti from seeds, such as disease resistance, stress resistance, root development, and lifespan, all of which are better than grafted or cutting-grown cacti. However, sowing requires a lot of management, and the seedling stage grows slowly, so sowing propagation is not common in home conditions. Actually, as long as you are familiar with the sowing methods and points to note, it's not a difficult task to appreciate the process of cacti from germination to flowering and fruiting.

Before sowing cactus seeds, you first need to prepare a container and cultivation medium. The pot for sowing should not be too large, just large enough to plant all the seeds. Some people also use disposable cups with holes for this purpose.

The soil should be well-draining, and the soil used for sowing should not be too fertile. Do not use soil for vegetables or from flower beds. I use broken akadama soil, and I have also used peat mixed with珍珠艳 in the past. If you don't have those conditions, you can use sand, but it will need to be transplanted after 3 months.

After filling the pot with soil, place it in the microwave for 5 minutes to sterilize, killing fungi and parasite eggs.

Get the seeds ready for sowing. It's best to soak the seeds in potassium permanganate (Multi菌灵) the day before sowing if you have the conditions at home. My family doesn't have potassium permanganate, so I didn't soak them. When sowing, place the seeds on top of the soil, making sure not to space them too closely together, then sprinkle some soil over the seeds or gently push the seeds into the soil.

Then spray a little water, and be sure to cover it with a transparent board to keep it moist, placing it in a scattered light area. When the seedlings come out, let them get a little sun, but not direct sunlight. If the seedlings turn green, give them more light; if they turn purplish-red, give them less light. Light red is the best.

That's it. The germination of the seeds may take anywhere from 3 days to several months, depending on the type, temperature, and humidity. So don't rush to discard the seeds that haven't germinated. These are a few seedlings I planted last year.
