Prism Arrow Cultivation and Maintenance Methods
This article introduces the content about the succulent plant Prism Arrow, including its cultivation and maintenance methods. Below, the editor will provide you with detailed answers.
Prism Arrow is also known as the Queen of the Night,霸王花 (Bàwáng huā), or Triangle Cactus. It is an epiphytic climbing plant belonging to the Cereus genus of the cactus family. It has many branches with a triangular column shape, wide and thin ridges with wavy edges; aerial roots on the stems, often using these roots to attach to trees or walls; segmented, each segment measuring 30-60cm, deep green; areoles spaced 3-4cm apart with 1-2 spines. The flowers are large, white, funnel-shaped, up to 30cm long, with yellowish-green outer petals and white inner petals in the shape of inverted lanceolate, fragrant, and blooming at night. The blooming period is from May to September. The fruit is oblong, 10-12cm long, red, and has a fragrant edible taste.
Prism Arrow is native to Mexico and the West Indies, and is also cultivated in other tropical and subtropical regions, including Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian provinces in China. The climate in its native region is warm year-round with abundant rainfall, high humidity, sometimes brief dry periods, and rich humus soil with a slightly acidic pH. Prism Arrow is robust, prefers a warm and humid semi-shaded environment, turns yellow under direct strong light, and requires ample light in winter; suitable for rich humus, loose, and fertile slightly acidic soil.
Prism Arrow is easy to propagate by cuttings and roots easily. The cutting medium can be plain sand or decomposed leaf soil mixed with wood ash, with the latter being more effective. In the growing season, take a sturdy stem segment, let the cut end dry, then proceed with the cutting, which will root in about one month. Sturdy and full stem segments placed in a warm, humid semi-shaded area will also root without cutting and can be directly potted. In summer, place under a shade shelter or semi-shaded area, water and spray water sufficiently to keep the potting soil and environment moist, with a suitable temperature of 25-30°C, and apply a thin liquid fertilizer every two weeks. Move indoors to a well-lit area at the end of autumn, maintaining a room temperature of over 10°C; under dry potting soil conditions, it can tolerate a low temperature of 5°C, but below 5°C, the stem segments are prone to rot. The potting soil can be mixed with decomposed leaf soil, coarse sand, and decomposed chicken or cow manure in equal amounts.
The above information is about the experience and knowledge of Prism Arrow cultivation and maintenance methods. I hope this article can be of some help to you!
