Gibbaeum cryptopodium, belonging to the Mesembryanthemaceae, Kaffir Lily Genus (藻玲玉属), is native to the Little Karoo Plateau of South Africa. It is a perennial herb, very fleshy, and easily forms clusters. The fleshy leaves at the base are united into an oval or near-oval shape, with symmetrical or asymmetrical sides. The leaf tips have a saddle-shaped notch. The leaf epidermis is thin and the surface is smooth. Young plants are solitary, while old plants form dense clusters. The leaf color ranges from light green to light yellow-green. The flowers bloom from the gap between two leaves, with pink flowers, slightly curved petals, and a diameter of about 2-3 cm. Generally, each plant blooms only one flower, and the blooming of clustered plants is very spectacular. They open in the afternoon under sufficient sunlight and close at night, lasting for about 7 days. It is difficult to open if encounter cloudy or rainy days or insufficient light in the cultivation area. The plants are cross-pollinated, and Gibbaeum cryptopodium is easy to form clusters.
