Cactus grafting process of Cereus peruvianus

The editor will share some experience about the succulent plant cactus with you, the complete process of grafting cactus and Cereus peruvianus. Next, the editor of the website will introduce to the netizens.

Dear readers: Thank you for considering me as a rough and tumble person, and I am asked to demonstrate the grafting of cactus and蟹爪兰 (Schlumbergera truncata) and Cereus peruvianus for you. As I have some free time recently and it's a good season for grafting, I have made all the preparations. I will slowly tell you one by one, and please correct me if there is any improper place.

Firstly, prepare the materials for grafting:

1. There should be a living grass ball with a diameter of not less than 5cm.

2. There should be ready-made materials for grafting, such as蟹 (Schlumbergera truncata) or finger materials with leaves that have been growing for more than one year.

3. Prepare a blade, a small knife, and scissors.

4. Choose a grass ball with a diameter of not less than 5cm and use scissors to cut off all the small spines on the top.

The appearance before cutting:

The appearance after cutting:

5. Disinfect the blade with alcohol and place the blade in the middle of the two edges of the ball, cut vertically down to make an incision about 1.5cm wide and 2cm deep (do not cut on the edge to avoid large deformation in later stage). For 12 edges, cut half on one side and half on the other; for 11 or 13 edges, one side has one more and the other side has one less.

6. Use the disinfected blade to trim the two sides of the leaf into a duck bill shape (wedge shape), both sides should be trimmed, and the length of the trim should be at least 1cm. Harder leaves should be trimmed more. It is better to choose relatively flat leaves to avoid too large incisions after insertion.

7. This step is the most difficult and crucial, otherwise all previous efforts will be in vain: hold the Cereus peruvianus or蟹 with your left hand, and the right hand holds the disinfected small knife (since the small knife has not been used yet), and make a gap in the incision just made (simply twist the knife slightly to the left and right), and quickly insert the Cereus peruvianus (this requires the last leaf of the Cereus peruvianus to have a certain degree of hardness).

8. Then use the right hand to pull up and down several times to make them fit closely.

This is the appearance after multiple grafts:

9. Then place the grafted Cereus peruvianus in a shady place for about 2 weeks. If you need to water during this period, make sure not to get water on the grafted part. After 2 weeks, gradually move it to the outdoors, and only enter normal fertilization and watering management after small buds appear.

The above sharing of the complete process of grafting cactus and Cereus peruvianus (with pictures and text) is a small experience of green plants and flowers, hoping it can help you in life!
