The variegated Portulacaria afra is a perennial succulent shrub, a variegated mutation of the Portulacaria afra tree. The plant has succulent stems, with branches extending horizontally, new branches are reddish-brown, and the old stems are grayish-white; the succulent leaves are ovate, opposite, and the edges of the new leaves have a red blush, which gradually recedes as the leaves grow. The small flowers are light pink. It thrives in sunny, warm, and dry environments, is drought-resistant, and dislikes shady, damp, and cold conditions. It is a variety of succulents with both beautiful leaves and shape, often used as medium or small potted plants or hanging baskets for decorating living rooms, studies, balconies, and window sills.
