Pachypodium namaquanum — Apocynaceae, Pachypodium genus, native to Namibia, also known as Guangtang. The succulent stem is 1.5-1.8 meters tall, unbranched, with dense 5 cm long spines. The spines are distinctive, without a spine base but still grouped in threes, with two long spines diverging in a V-shape and a shorter spine in the middle, all spines are brown. During the growing season, the top of the stem clusters with oblong leaves, green, 8-12 cm long and 2-6 cm wide, with a prominent midrib and a lighter color, and wavy leaf margins. Leaves fall during the dry season. Flowers grow in the axils of leaves, with yellow petals and reddish-brown villi. Among the succulent plants of the Apocynaceae family, the Pachypodium genus is the most important. Due to its rarity, it is rarely introduced to China. Pachypodium is one of the first batch of succulent plants listed as a class one protected species, and the plant should be collected as a valuable specimen.
