What flowers are good to keep at home
The editor will tell you about what flowers are good to keep at home and introduce some knowledge about flowers and plants suitable for home cultivation. Let's learn about it together.
Nowadays, people's living standards have gradually improved, and many people like to place several pots of flowers and green plants at home for care. However, due to work and family constraints, it is not possible to take care of flowers as meticulously as in a greenhouse. What flowers are more suitable for home care and are easy to maintain throughout the year without too much management?
In the south, the temperature is mild throughout the year, but it is different in the north, where winter temperatures are very low. The indoor temperature is not very high, but people and most plants can adapt. Today, I will recommend a few plants that are suitable for indoor cultivation in the north and can be maintained well throughout the year with simple care.
1. Bougainvillea.
Bougainvillea is a very easy-to-care-for green plant. Its maintenance is very simple, and it is a woody vine plant. To grow it well, we just need to provide it with good soil. I usually mix nutrient-rich soil and river sand in a 1:1 ratio, then place it in the sunniest area. When the potting soil is almost dry, water it thoroughly, and supplement fertilizer regularly to ensure its continuous growth and flowering. After flowering, trim it in time and supplement fertilizer again, which can make it bloom twice. However, when choosing varieties, it is best to choose Angus, Green Leaf Orange, etc., and avoid Green Leaf Red, Small Leaf Purple, and Green Leaf Water Red, as these three varieties are relatively lazy. Other varieties can bloom continuously in normal home care as long as the temperature is kept above 20 degrees. However, in the north, if the temperature drops below 10 degrees in winter, it may shed leaves. We just need to keep the potting soil slightly moist and place it in a well-lit area to survive the winter.
2. Kalanchoe.
Kalanchoe has been popular in the market in recent years and is a common perennial flowering plant in home care. Its natural flowering period is during the New Year, which is winter. It requires a temperature of about 10 degrees in winter to grow and bloom normally. To care for Kalanchoe, you must use loose and breathable soil. I usually mix river sand and nutrient-rich soil in a 1:1 ratio, and there is no problem with this method. Kalanchoe care is very simple. In summer, direct sunlight can burn the leaves, so you can遮掉 50% of the sunlight. In the other three seasons, provide it with plenty of sunlight. The watering principle is to water thoroughly when the potting soil is half-dry because Kalanchoe has shallow roots. If you wait until the soil is completely dry, it will damage the fine roots. Ensure good ventilation and supplement fertilizer regularly. During the growing season, use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer, and during the flowering season, supplement phosphorus and potassium-rich fertilizer. This will allow it to grow continuously and bloom beautiful flowers when it's time to flower, with an abundance of blooms.

3. Cactus.
Cactus is quite common in the market. I have cultivated nearly 20,000 cacti of various varieties. However, to make cacti bloom, they must have plenty of sunlight, loose and breathable soil, and water thoroughly when the potting soil is dry. You will be able to care for the cactus well and make it bloom. Some flower friends say that cacti have thorns and are not suitable for home care, especially with children, but there are many varieties of cacti without thorns, such as Llanos and Xingdou, and there are many others, such as Feihua Yu, which is a soft-thorn variety. These cacti bloom beautifully and have a strong blooming ability. Keeping a pot doesn't take up much space and can bloom continuously with less water and fertilizer, ensuring normal growth without dying, and they are also less prone to pests and diseases, making them very suitable for home care.
4. Hibiscus.
Hibiscus is a typical southern flower with a very strong blooming ability. If the temperature can be maintained between 15 and 20 degrees, it will bloom continuously throughout the year. Caring for it is very simple: place it in the sunniest area, use loose and breathable soil, and supplement it with multi-element fertilizer regularly, about 2-3 times a month. With the right temperature, you can grow a hibiscus that will bloom continuously. Although the single bloom period is short, it has a large number of flowers and blooms for a whole year.
5. Geranium.
Geranium is also called绣球花 in our rural flower market, and some dealers call it 四季海棠 because it blooms all year round. In fact, it is geranium. It can bloom all year round as long as the temperature can be maintained at about 15 degrees. Its care is also very simple, and it can even grow well in garden soil, but it needs to be fertilized regularly. The most important point in its care is to avoid letting it get rained on in summer. When watering, water it thoroughly when the potting soil is dry and not when the soil surface is just dry, as high summer temperatures can cause root rot. In other seasons, water and fertilize normally and provide plenty of sunlight to ensure continuous blooming. You can use multi-element fertilizer and ensure good ventilation. If you grow a small geranium seedling for a year, it will grow and bloom continuously, eventually becoming a large flowering plant that looks very beautiful when it blooms.
