Japanese Quince is a dwarf shrub, about 1 meter tall; branches spread widely, with fine spines, young branches are rough, cylindrical, covered with villous hair when young, purplish red, two-year-old branches have wart-like protuberances, dark brown; leaves are obovate, spoon-shaped to broadly ovate; flowers are clustered, pedicels are short or almost sessile, petals are obovate or nearly round; blooming period is from March to June, fruiting period is from August to October.
