Planting Method for Inverted Bell Flower Seeds
This article introduces the planting method for inverted bell flower seeds and shares some green plant maintenance tips on seed selection techniques. Detailed content is shared below.
Many friends who have purchased the seeds of hanging bell flowers do not know how to plant them. In fact, the sowing technique for hanging bell flower seeds can be carried out according to general seed sowing techniques.
Hanging bell flower, also known as lantern flower, inverted bell, or hanging bell begonia, is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant. There are many species, and propagation mainly uses cutting or layering methods. Seed propagation is less common and is mainly used for research varieties. Vegetative propagation can maintain the variety characteristics of the mother plant, is relatively stable, and the cuttings grow quickly. Seed propagation usually has some variability compared to the mother plant and takes a longer time to grow into seedlings.
The seeds of hanging bell flowers should be sown in spring or autumn. First, soak the seeds in warm water for disinfection using the warm water soak method, that is, soak in 52~55℃ warm water for 30 minutes, stirring until the temperature is normal. If you don't have many seeds, a small bowl of water is sufficient. After removing the seeds, wash them with clean water and then soak the seeds in clean water for 6~8 hours before taking them out. Wrap the seeds with a damp cloth and place them in a germination box to germinate, maintaining a temperature of 26~28℃. After about 2~3 days, when the seeds start to sprout, they can be sown. It is important to keep the cloth moist and not dry. You can spray with clean water in between, but do not let the seeds accumulate water.
The seedbed soil can use nutrient-rich soil or fertile, loose loam. Do not add chemical fertilizers, and you can mix in a small amount of fully decomposed organic fertilizer, but not too much to prevent burning the seedlings. You can also use tray or nutrient pots for seedling raising. First, water the seedbed thoroughly, then after the water has penetrated, broadcast the seeds on the surface of the bed, preferably by spot sowing, to facilitate transplanting later. Then cover the seeds with about 1CM of nutrient-rich soil.
The seedbed should be kept warm and moist, and a plastic film can be used for arch shed coverage to maintain a temperature of about 15~25℃. After the seedlings emerge, it is necessary to strengthen ventilation and prevent diseases during the seedling stage. Keep the bed soil moist but avoid waterlogging. When the sun is strong and the temperature is high, appropriate shading should be applied. If the temperature exceeds 30℃, the plant may enter a semi-dormant state. In winter, the temperature should be maintained above 5℃. During the seedling growth process, generally no top dressing is required, but you can spray 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution 1~2 times to promote strong seedlings.
During the seedling stage, it is important to strengthen ventilation, water appropriately, and prevent diseases and pests such as猝倒病, damping off, aphids, and whiteflies. Appropriate chemicals can be used for control.
Seedlings can be transplanted when they have 5~6 true leaves or more.
