How to propagate gardenia cuttings in water

Today, the editor will introduce how to propagate gardenia cuttings in water and share some tips on gardenia water cutting propagation, let's take a look together!

When cultivating gardenias, apart from the traditional soil cultivation method, you can also use water cultivation, which is more aesthetically pleasing than soil cultivation. Below, I will specifically introduce the method of propagating gardenias in water.

1. Choosing branches

For water cultivation, choose healthy, disease-free branches of gardenias. These can be from the tip or the middle of the branch. Note that the branches should not be too weak or too thin; only strong and healthy branches are more likely to root and survive during the water cultivation process.

2. Trimming branches

Remove all the leaves from the bottom of the branch and cut the bottom cut into a slant. Leave only 1-2 leaves at the top of the branch for photosynthesis, as too many leaves will increase evaporation and make it harder for the branch to survive. Additionally, it's best to have 3 nodes at the top of the branch. If you are using the middle part of the branch, the top cut of the cutting should be cut flat, while the bottom cut should still be cut at a slant.

3. Water and container

The container for water cultivation should be cleaned thoroughly, with no dirt inside or at the bottom. It's best to use purified water, but if not available, tap water can also be used. When using tap water, it should be pre-stored to allow the chlorine to dissipate.

4. Water cultivation insertion

Insert the cutting into the water. If you want to keep the branch upright, you can choose a special water cultivation container with a netted bottom. If you don't have a special water cultivation container, you can place a piece of foam at the mouth of the container, make some holes in the foam, and insert the cutting into the container through the small holes for water cultivation. Change the water every 1-2 days until roots form, which usually takes about 10-15 days. There's no need to use nutrient solution for branches that have not yet rooted.
