It is better to water the osmanthus every few days
Today, I will introduce to you the optimal watering frequency for osmanthus and some small tricks for maintaining the plant. Here is a comprehensive introduction.
Osmanthus is a plant with a strong fragrance and a particularly long blooming period. One of its varieties is called "Four Seasons Osmanthus," which theoretically can bloom all year round, with each bloom lasting for a few months and then reblooming after a period of time. This is one of its characteristics. If we grow common varieties like Dan Osmanthus, they can bloom for one to two months. So how about the fragrance of the Four Seasons Osmanthus, which has a long blooming period? Its fragrance is also very strong. Today, I will talk about the method to keep it growing and blooming continuously.
The first point is to provide it with suitable soil and select an appropriate pot. Many gardening enthusiasts fail to grow osmanthus well because they didn't do this step right. When cultivating at home, it is essential to choose a pot with good breathability. I use ceramic pots to grow osmanthus because they allow the soil to dry quickly and enable the roots to experience a process of drying and wetting. This prevents the osmanthus from rotting roots or leaves. The soil should be as breathable and water-permeable as possible. If you have well-fermented pine needle soil, you can add half of it and use other soil for the other half. This ensures that the soil remains acidic, breathable, and water-permeable without lacking nutrients.
The second point is to water and fertilize it properly. Osmanthus loves water. Generally, water it when the surface of the soil is dry, but there is a prerequisite: the soil must be breathable. Then, supplement it with sufficient fertilizer. Our Four Seasons Osmanthus blooms all year round, so if we want it to keep blooming, we should choose "Flower More No. 2" fertilizer, which has a high content of phosphorus and potassium elements without lacking other elements. Alternatively, we can choose other fertilizers high in phosphorus and not lacking in other elements. Apply it 2-3 times a month. With sufficient fertilizer and enough phosphorus, it will keep growing and continuously produce flower buds to bloom.
The third point is also very crucial, which is lighting and ventilation. Osmanthus loves light. However, if you place it in a location with strong sunlight without watering it in time, its leaves will dry out. Therefore, we must ensure it gets plenty of light, provided it doesn't lack water. The better the lighting, the healthier the plant grows, and the internodes will be shorter, preventing the plant from becoming leggy. Moreover, with sufficient lighting, the flowers smell better and the blooming period can be effectively extended. The maintenance environment should also have good ventilation to prevent root rot when watering.
In fact, growing osmanthus is not difficult. If you follow these points as I mentioned, you basically won't have any issues. It prefers acidic soil. If you are in the north, water it with a solution of ferrous sulfate once a month to ensure the soil remains acidic and does not lack iron, preventing yellow leaves. Make sure not to lack water. Follow my method for watering, provide sufficient light, and keep the fertilizer going, ensuring a certain level of ventilation. Growing osmanthus is not a difficult task at all. After the flowers have finished blooming, prune the branches promptly. Don't prune again after that. After a period of time, it will bloom again.
The above introduction on the optimal watering frequency for osmanthus and specific tips for maintaining osmanthus will hopefully bring some floral knowledge to green plant enthusiasts.
