Cultivation and attention of osmanthus trees
As a traditional and famous tree in China, sweet-scented osmanthus tree is favored by gardening enthusiasts for its rich aroma and elegant tree shape. Mastering scientific maintenance methods can not only prolong the flowering period, but also cultivate plants with beautiful shapes. The following is a systematic explanation of the daily management tips of osmanthus trees in the courtyard from five dimensions. The soil substrate of the basic maintenance system of sweet-scented osmanthus trees is scientifically prepared using a ratio of legus soil, garden soil, river sand, and decomposed cake fertilizer of 2:3:3:2 to form an ideal substrate for ventilation and fertility retention. It is recommended to add 5% sulfur powder to adjust the pH value in the northern region, and 10% perlite can be added to enhance drainage in rainy areas in the south. The surface soil needs to be replaced every two years to prevent hardening. The light cycle is dynamically adjusted to maintain a full sunshine environment in spring and autumn, and a sunshade net is needed for protection in summer from 10:00 to 15:00. During the flower bud differentiation period (August to September), direct light is guaranteed for 6 hours a day, and indoor maintenance in winter should be placed in the south-facing bay window. Newly transplanted plants need to gradually increase the light intensity. The key nodes of water management adopt the principle of "see dry, see wet", and the topsoil is poured thoroughly immediately when it is dry. Keep the soil moist during the spring shoot growth period, and moderately control water during the bud emergence period to promote flower bud development. In the rainy season, it is necessary to raise the planting pond by 15 centimeters to prevent waterlogging, and spray the leaves in the morning and evening when the air is dry. During the nutrient supply stage, it is planned to apply balanced fertilizers of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (10-10-10) from March to April, apply additional bone meal from May to June to promote the health of branches, and use potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution (1:1000) to spray every ten days from July. Apply decomposed sesame cake fertilizer after flowering to restore tree vitality and stop fertilizing in winter. Advanced management points for osmanthus trees, modeling and pruning time rules, carry out shaping and pruning before germination in early spring to remove inner branches, pest and insect branches. Cut off the remaining flower branches in time after flowering and retain the basal 2-3 buds. Gently cut long branches in summer to keep the crown ventilated and transparent. Plants over three years old need to retract and replace old branches. The northern wintering protection system is watered with frozen water in early November, the trunk is wrapped with double-layered non-woven fabrics, and 30 centimeters of soil is piled at the root and neck. The potted plants are moved into the cold room (0-5℃) and the moisture content is checked monthly. The protection will be gradually removed in mid-March of the following year to avoid sudden changes in temperature.
Through systematic maintenance and management, osmanthus trees can achieve annual growth of 40-60 centimeters, and the flowering period is extended to 2-3 months. Regularly observing the status of the plants and adjusting maintenance strategies in a timely manner can allow this traditional famous wood to bloom with new vitality in modern courtyards.
