Cassia cutting involves six key steps
For most women, the content of Cassia culture and propagation, Cassia cutting involves six key steps. Next, the editor of this site will introduce them to you.
Cassia propagation is mainly through cutting, which has a high propagation coefficient and is suitable for rapid seedling raising. At the same time, after the cuttings take root, they grow quickly and bloom early, usually flowering 4 to 5 years after planting. Cassia cutting should be done with attention to six key steps.
1. Timing of cutting - Cassia cutting is done in two periods: summer cutting (from early May to early June) and autumn cutting (August to September), when the spring shoots and summer shoots are lignified or semi-lignified. Semi-lignified branches for cutting are also known as tender or green branch cuttings.
2. Bed preparation - Choose a flat area with high ground, convenient drainage and irrigation as the Cassia cutting bed. The best substrate is slightly acidic sandy loam, light loam, or a mixture of river sand and peat, formed into 1-meter wide beds. Use a 40% formaldehyde solution diluted 50 times or a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution to water the bed for disinfection and kill germs.
3. Preparing cuttings - Choose healthy, disease-free trees aged 10 to 15 years, cut the outer and upper parts of the tree crown for the current year's lignified or semi-lignified branches, cut them into lengths of about 10 cm with 3 buds, leaving 1 pair of leaves at the top, and cut diagonally 0.5 cm below the node at the bottom. It is best to cut and insert immediately. If cuttings are taken from elsewhere, they must be kept in a shady place and sprayed with water on the leaves to keep them moist, preventing the cuttings from losing water due to evaporation, which is the key to ensuring survival.
4. Rooting treatment - To promote rooting and increase the survival rate of cuttings, treat the base of the cuttings with 200 to 300 ppm of naphthylacetic acid or ABT rooting powder for 3 to 5 minutes to stimulate rooting.
5. Cutting method - Before inserting, water the bed thoroughly (but do not flood). The spacing between plants is 5 to 10 cm. Two-thirds of the cutting should be inserted into the soil, leaving 1 bud above the ground. After inserting, water thoroughly to make the soil fully contact the cutting and keep it moist.
6. Post-cutting management - After cutting, set up a shade house, often using a closed system, maintaining about 30% light transmission inside the shed, controlling the temperature between 25°C and 27°C, and keeping the relative humidity of the air above 80%. Ventilate once every morning. Water appropriately, but strictly prevent excessive water to avoid rotting of the cuttings. Keep the bed soil moist and well-ventilated to facilitate rooting. After survival, gradually dismantle the shade house to increase sunlight, and cover with a film in winter to prevent freezing. After roots and shoots appear, apply a thin fertilizer with water to promote growth.
