How to transplant osmanthus seedlings
As one of the top ten famous traditional flowers in China, osmanthus not only has a rich aroma, but also the transplanting of its seedlings is a key link related to the quality of later growth. Mastering the correct transplanting timing and scientific methods can allow new plants to quickly adapt to the environment and lay a solid foundation for full branches in the golden autumn season. 1. Analysis of the golden time for transplanting osmanthus seedlings 1.1 Advantages of transplanting in spring The best period for transplanting is March to April every year. At this time, the average daily temperature is stable between 12-18℃, and the soil moisture content is moderate after thawing. Compared with other seasons, transplanting in spring can allow root systems to recover before the peak growth season, avoiding the risk of excessive transpiration at high temperatures in summer and freezing damage at low temperatures in winter. 1.2 Climate indicator control focuses on operating when the temperature is>10℃ for five consecutive days and there is no warning of late spring cold. Maintaining the relative humidity of the air in the range of 60-75% is most beneficial to survival. The southern region can be appropriately advanced to late February, while the northern region should be postponed to early April. 2. Guidelines for the entire process of transplanting osmanthus seedlings 2.1 The scientific ratio of substrate adopts the golden ratio of garden soil: leaf soil: perlite =4:3:3, and 50g of slow-release fertilizer is added to each cubic meter of mixed substrate. Before use, it needs to be exposed to the sun for 3 days or disinfected with potassium permanganate solution to effectively kill nematodes and soil-borne bacteria. 2.2 The root system is finely processed. Soil balls with a diameter of 30cm are retained when seedlings are raised, and taproots with a length of more than 15cm are pruned. Soak the mechanically damaged roots with 1000 times carbendazim for 15 minutes, apply plant ash to the incision to promote healing, and dry until the surface of the root system is slightly dry before planting. 2.3 The technical points of planting adopt the technique of "three burials, two stepping on and one lifting": first filling 1/3 of the substrate, then gently lift the seedlings to straighten out the root system, second filling to 2/3 of the soil, and finally cover the soil to make a 5cm high tree plate. Note that the joint between the roots and roots needs to be 2- 3 cm higher than the ground to prevent stagnant water and root rot. 2.4 After seedling maintenance and planting, pour thoroughly with root-fixing water and build a 50% sunshade net for 15 days. Keep the humidity of the substrate at about 60%(hold it into a ball in your hands and disperse on the ground). After new buds germinate, 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate is sprayed on the leaves every week, and routine fertilization can be carried out after 3 new leaves are extracted. 3. The annual management plan after transplanting will focus on cultivating tree shapes for the first year and promptly remove sprouts below 50cm of the trunk. 5-6 Composed cake fertilizer was applied in conjunction with rainfall in September, and nitrogen fertilizer was stopped and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer were added to improve cold resistance. The northern region needs to cultivate soil in mid-November to prevent cold prevention, and use straw ropes to wrap the trunk to prevent freezing damage.
By accurately grasping the transplanting timing and standardized operating procedures, and cooperating with annual refined maintenance, the transplanting survival rate of osmanthus seedlings can reach more than 95%. Remember the gardening rule of "planting in three points and raising in seven points". After 2-3 years of patient cultivation, you will be able to harvest the refreshing fragrance of cinnamon seeds all over the garden.
