When will the camellia seedlings be transplanted?
As one of the top ten famous traditional flowers in China, camellia is favored by gardening enthusiasts for its gorgeous flower appearance and evergreen characteristics all year round. Transplanting, as an important part of camellia maintenance, directly affects plant survival rate and flowering quality. Mastering scientific transplanting methods can allow your camellia seedlings to quickly adapt to the new environment and bloom in a more gorgeous posture. The golden time for transplanting camellia seedlings needs to meet the physiological activity temperature of 15-32℃. The optimal period is from late autumn to early winter (late October to mid-November). At this time, the plant ends its growth period of the year, has sufficient nutrient reserves, and has strong root repair capabilities. The northern region needs to ensure that the soil temperature is>10℃, and the southern region avoids the rainy season to prevent root rot. Risk prevention and control of poor transplanting time Early transplanting (before September) will interrupt flower bud differentiation, resulting in a decrease in flowering in the following year; too late transplanting (after December) is prone to freezing damage. It is recommended to combine local weather forecasts and choose continuous sunny operations to avoid three days before the cold wave and two days after rainfall. The four core technologies for camellia transplanting are constructed to build a root protection system for transplanting with soil. Native soil balls with a diameter of 30-40cm must be retained and wrapped and fixed with linen. The length of the main root shall be no less than 15cm, and the damage rate of lateral roots shall be controlled within 10%. Spray rooting agent (IBA 500mg/L) immediately after seedling raising, and complete planting within 2 hours. The balance rule of crown pruning adopts the "432 pruning method": remove 40% of cross branches, 30% of pest and insect branches, 20% of loose branches, and retain 10% of new shoots. Apply healing ointment after pruning, and transplant again at an interval of 48 hours to ensure preliminary healing of the wound. The substrate formula is scientifically proportioned. The ideal soil ratio is: 50% red loam soil +30% humus soil +15% perlite +5% sulfur powder. The pH value is controlled between 5.5 and 6.5, and the substrate is disinfected with 800 times carbendazim solution before transplanting. Environmental transition period management Build a 50% sunshade net after transplanting to maintain the air humidity of 70%-80%. A progressive insulation method is adopted: when the daily temperature is greater than 5℃, the film is peeled off for ventilation during the day, and covered with double agricultural film at night. Spray a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate + brassinolide mixture every 7 days.
By accurately grasping the transplanting timing and standardized operating procedures, and cooperating with scientific post-maintenance, the survival rate of camellia transplanting can reach more than 95%. It is recommended to closely observe the leaf condition within 30 days after transplanting and adjust the maintenance plan in time to lay a foundation for the healthy growth of new plants.
