What is Clifftop Chrysanthemum?
The editor explains the common knowledge of flower cultivation about Clifftop Chrysanthemum, what is Clifftop Chrysanthemum, please refer to the detailed introduction below.
Clifftop Chrysanthemum is a type of potted plant with a unique style, made from medium and small varieties and shaped by artificial pruning to resemble a high cliff, hence the name. It is not a variety of chrysanthemum but a pruning form of small chrysanthemums. Usually, single-petal, branching, soft-stemmed, and densely flowering small varieties are selected to imitate the natural posture of wild small chrysanthemums hanging in the mountains, pruning them into a drooping cliff shape. The key to cultivation is to use bamboo frames to guide the main stem forward and to pinch the tips at the right time. The standards for appreciation are that the flowering branches droop, the main stem is in the center, the lateral branches are evenly distributed, the front is narrow and the back is wide, the flowers are full, the flowering period is consistent, and the longer the better.
The cultivation of Clifftop Chrysanthemum requires a year. In late November, select strong-growing plants with tough stems that are easy to extend and branch. Take the basal buds from the mother plant and plant them in pots with fertile soil, preferably with roots. For the same variety, plant two plants together. The potting soil should be fertile, similar to that used for large upright chrysanthemums. Around Qingming Festival in April, move the pots to a suitable location for cultivation. To make the chrysanthemum vines grow斜lent, set up inclined bamboo poles and, when牵引ing, tie the stronger ones to the inclined poles to grow along them. For the other plant, cut off the top half to promote side branches, compensating for the deficiencies of the other plant's pot feet. The bamboo poles should be inclined to the west to make it easier for the seedlings to grow along them, otherwise, they may show an "upward" phenomenon.
In the cultivation of Clifftop Chrysanthemum, pruning and pinching are important steps. When the plant is about 20 centimeters tall, remove the top, leaving one terminal bud or three buds as the main branches. After that, do not pinch the heart of the main shoot or remove the side buds, but only pinch the hearts of the side branches to promote branching and let the main shoot extend. The first pinching of the side branches should be done in mid-to-late May, leaving four leaves; subsequent pinching of the resulting small side branches leaves only two leaves; pinch once a month until ten days after the start of autumn. Since the growth at the top of the plant is strong and the flower buds form earlier than at the base, the last pinching can be done in two to three stages. Pinch the base ten days earlier than the top and the middle five days earlier to ensure a uniform flowering period.
