How to care for roses

Today's tip sharing: the content about how to care for roses and the correct methods of rose cultivation in the aspect of green plants and flowers. Let's learn about it together.

Roses are a very romantic kind of flowers, symbolizing eternal love. They are usually used as cut flowers and are the best choice for gifts to girlfriends on Valentine's Day or when proposing. However, roses as potted plants also have high ornamental value. The bright-colored roses can emit a faint fragrance when in bloom, which can calm our烦躁 emotions and relieve stress. Keeping a pot of roses at home is both beautiful and practical. Let's see how to care for potted roses at home!

I. Soil

There is a saying among flower growers that "to grow flowers, one must first grow roots." Without good roots, it is difficult to grow roses well. Suitable soil conditions are a must for growing healthy roses. Roses prefer loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil, and of course, good breathability and water permeability are also essential.

Decayed leaf soil is the best choice for planting roses, as it is not only loose and breathable but also rich in nutrients. However, since decayed leaf soil retains water well, we need to add some granular soil to it to improve drainage and prevent waterlogging in the pot, which is essential for the healthy growth of rose roots.

II. Water

Whether a plant can survive depends on how well it is watered. Although roses are somewhat drought-resistant, prolonged lack of water can cause their fine roots to dry out and die. If watered too much, the roots of roses cannot breathe properly and are prone to rot, so it is very important to master the amount of watering.

Usually, in spring and autumn when the weather is warm, roses are in their growing period. Only adequate water can make them grow better, so we should water them thoroughly as soon as the soil surface dries. However, in extremely hot summers and cold winters, roses enter a dormant period with the change of temperature, their growth rate slows down or even stops, and their demand for water naturally decreases. Therefore, we should wait 2-3 days after the soil surface dries before watering the roses again, which allows them to better absorb water.

III. Nutrition

If the survival of a plant depends on water, then its thriving depends on nutrients, especially for flowering plants like roses, which require ample nutrients. Generally, when planting roses, we should add some decomposed base fertilizer to the potting soil, which can supply all the nutrients needed during the growth period of the roses and make the soil looser and more breathable, less likely to compact.

In the growing seasons of spring and autumn, we should also fertilize in time. Only with adequate nutrients can the roots of roses become stronger and the flowers bloom better. As soon as spring arrives, we should apply a compound fertilizer like "Flower多多2号" that is rich in phosphorus and potassium elements, and every half month, we should apply a well-diluted solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate to the roots. This should continue until the roses bloom, and at other times, we should supplement with a balanced compound fertilizer once a month. However, fertilization should be stopped immediately if the temperature is too high or too low, as it can easily cause fertilizer damage.
