What are the propagation methods of roses?
Let me tell you about the propagation methods of roses and some small experiences of green plant maintenance related to hydroponics and soil cultivation guidelines for rose cuttings. Please see the detailed introduction below.
After the spring warms up, you can start propagating new plants continuously. Flower enthusiasts must try propagating roses (roses) through cuttings. Even the cut roses sold in flower shops can be used for propagation at home, and the operation is very simple.
As long as you prepare more rose branches, you can continuously propagate new potted plants. One plant can become two, three, four...
The success rate of rose cutting propagation is generally over 75%. If the operation is proper, the success rate of propagation can reach 80%~90% or more.
1. Timing of cutting
The best time to propagate roses is after early spring, in March or April. In fact, as long as the weather is warm and the environment is humid, the success rate of propagation will be high, especially when the temperature is between 18~25 degrees and the humidity is above 55%~80%. Avoid propagating in hot summers and cold winters.
2. Selection and treatment of branches
In addition to choosing the right time, you need to prepare suitable branches. You must choose branches that are free from diseases and pests. Just check if there are pests or diseases on the branches, even blind branches or buds can be cut.
Roses full of aphids
The selected branches should not be too old, those that have turned brown at the bottom and have started to lignify. Choose branches that are relatively strong and mostly green.
The cut branches should be about 10~15 centimeters long, with the leaves at the bottom removed, the bottom cut diagonally, and the top cut straight, leaving about two to three leaves at the top. Remove any flower buds in time.
3. Hydroponic cutting
The processed branches can first be propagated hydroponically. Prepare some containers filled with water, such as glass jars or plastic bottles. Soak the bottom three to five centimeters of the branches in water, place them in a place with scattered light, such as morning and evening sunlight, and change the water every three to five days. If the water quality is particularly good, you can add clean water when the water level decreases.

Hydroponically grown rose cuttings with callus tissue
About two to three weeks later, the bottom of the rose cuttings will grow callus tissue and gradually develop roots. When the roots grow to three to five centimeters, you can transfer them to soil cultivation.
4. Soil cultivation cutting
The processed branches can be directly cut into potting soil, preferably in a smaller seedling pot. If conditions permit, you can plant them directly in the ground. Rose branches cut directly into the ground are easy to take root, and the soil in the ground should have good drainage and breathability.
If the rose branches are cut into containers, try to choose a smaller container bottom with more drainage holes. You can choose common seedling trays or disposable cups, pierce more holes in the bottom, and use common peat soil, perlite, and stone in a 2:1:1 ratio. You can also use pure perlite or pure vermiculite for cutting.
