Is it better to graft or propagate the rose cuttings?
Let me share with you some related experiences about whether it is better to graft or propagate the rose cuttings and the propagation methods of rose planting. Let's take a look together!
In spring, when buying roses, there is no doubt that the choice of rose seedlings is definitely to propagate by cuttings. Currently, there are two methods of rose propagation on the market: one is grafting, also known as root grafting, and the other is propagation by cutting branches. Both methods have their pros and cons, but for home potted rose cultivation, roses propagated by cuttings are the most suitable.
Many people may wonder why not choose root grafting. Long ago, I also heard from friends that roses grafted with root grafting are all old rose stocks that have been growing for many years. There are many rose greenhouses in Yunnan, and the roses produced are sold abroad. After growing for many years, the roots of roses will age, which will greatly reduce the quality and quantity of the roses. Therefore, the rose roots in the soil will be dug up for grafting, grafted into roses, and then sold on the market.
Roses and roses belong to the same family, Rosaceae, so their roots can be grafted with each other. Roses cultivated in greenhouses will basically have aging roots after three to five years of growth. The growth rate of aging roses will greatly decrease, and the quality of the rose branches will also deteriorate. In order not to waste the original roots, they will be grafted with rose branches for secondary sale.
Is it better to graft or propagate the rose cuttings?
Most of the roses sold in the market are propagated by cuttings because the growth rate of cuttings is relatively slow in the early stage. However, roses that have been grafted grow very fast, and the quality of flowering is also very high. The old rose roots grafted with new rose branches have sufficient ability to absorb nutrients to supply the growth of new branches. After grafting, they can complete flowering in the same year and be sold on the market.
For home potted roses, the standard during maintenance is slow and stable. There is no need to make it grow too fast in the early stage. Therefore, choosing cuttings is the most suitable. Over time, the roses will continue to grow, and the roots will also develop continuously. Gradually, the roots will become thick and strong, and naturally, high-quality petals can be produced.
