Methods and Pruning Techniques for Growing Desert Rose
This website introduces the methods and pruning techniques for growing Desert Rose, as well as some green plant maintenance tips related to the cultivation of Desert Rose. Next, our site editor will introduce these to everyone.
Desert Rose is a flowering plant that many people cultivate. Firstly, it is not very expensive, and secondly, it is relatively easy to care for, capable of blooming continuously throughout the year. This leads everyone to want to buy a few and keep them at home. However, when we grow it at home, with normal watering and fertilizing, it only blooms one or two flowers at a time, which is not very beautiful. Is there something wrong with the operation?
Actually, to make Desert Rose bloom more, it doesn't matter if the seedlings are small or the branches are few. We just need to prune reasonably. If you master the pruning method, it will bloom more flowers and have a longer blooming period. Today, I will tell you about the pruning method for Desert Rose and it needs to be combined with "3 elements" to become a "small flowering tree."
Pruning
If you buy a Desert Rose with few branches, maybe one or two, even if you take good care of it later, it will only bloom from the top of these one or two branches. The flowers will not be many or look good, which makes it difficult for us to achieve the look of a blooming pot that others have, so we need to prune.
When you get the seedlings, do not prune them first, but let them adapt to the pot. Let them grow normally in your home, and when you see them starting to grow and the trunk becoming harder, you can prune. When pruning, just leave three to five centimeters above the last bud position and cut off the top directly. After cutting, the wound will ooze water, which should be slowly blotted dry with a tissue until it stops oozing. Then apply a healing agent or carbendazim to the wound to prevent infection.
Methods and Pruning Techniques for Growing Desert Rose
Pruning must be done on sunny days, so that after pruning, it will quickly grow lateral branches. The remaining three to five centimeters of branches may grow two, three, or even four branches. No matter how many branches grow, when they reach six to ten centimeters in length and the main trunk below is thick, prune again, also leaving three to five centimeters.
After pruning, since we have pruned many branches at once, each remaining branch can grow multiple lateral buds. After the lateral buds grow out, continue to use this method to prune until you see many lateral buds on the top and a full crown. At this point, stop pruning, and it will quickly enter the blooming period. When the flowers bloom, they will be wonderful because the more lateral branches there are, the more flowers will bloom at the top of the branches, achieving the effect of a full pot.
When pruning, we must remember that there must be sufficient light, as new buds will grow thicker and stronger with enough light and will not become leggy. Also, pruning should be done on sunny days and during the season of vigorous growth, with temperatures not below 20 degrees. This will result in more branches, and the more branches there are, the more flowers will bloom. Pruning should be combined with three elements: light, fertilizing, and watering.
1. Light
Whether Desert Rose is growing or dormant, light is essential because its stems and leaves can perform photosynthesis. Good photosynthesis ensures that the roots are well-developed and do not become dry, and the roots grow quickly. Moreover, if there is a lack of light after pruning, the new buds will be very thin and weak, and they may easily become black. Therefore, regardless of your actions, after pruning, it is necessary to provide full sun care to ensure that the new buds grow more and are stronger.
