Chlorophytum Reproduction Methods
This article provides a detailed introduction to the cultivation of Chlorophytum, focusing on its reproduction methods. For a detailed explanation, please see the following introduction.
Chlorophytum Reproduction Methods
Chlorophytum can be propagated using the slender cutting method, typically before moving outdoors in spring, around March. Separate the old plants and replant them. Alternatively, you can cut the small leaf clusters that grow on the creeping stems, whether or not they have aerial roots, and plant them in potting soil to promote growth.
Chlorophytum slender cutting and propagation can be carried out from spring to autumn. Chlorophytum is highly adaptable with a high survival rate and is generally easy to propagate. When propagating, simply take a 5-10 cm long piece of the creeping stem with young buds and insert it into the soil. It can take root in about a week, and can be transplanted into a pot after about 20 days, watering thoroughly and placing it in a shaded area for maintenance.
When propagating Chlorophytum using slender cuttings, you can remove the plant from the pot, remove the old soil and decayed roots, cut the old roots, and ensure that each separated plant has three stems. Then, plant them individually to shape them. Alternatively, you can cut the lanceolate stems from the Chlorophytum creeping stem (which is essentially a young plant with leaves and rootlets) and directly plant them in a pot to cultivate them.
Chlorophytum can be propagated by seeds every March. As the seeds are small, the soil covering them should not be too thick, usually 0.5 cm is sufficient. At a temperature of 15°C, the seeds can germinate in about two weeks, and after the seedlings have formed, they can be transplanted and cultivated. When propagating varieties with leaf art, the offspring may revert to an all-green variety.
