When do pansies bloom?
Today's focus is to introduce when pansies bloom and some small knowledge about the flowering season of pansies, followed by the editor's introduction.
Pansies are familiar to many flower enthusiasts, often spotted in urban flower beds during winter and spring. Pansies generally bloom from late autumn through June, with a flowering period of up to 7 months. The peak blooming season is in spring, and they are prone to burst into bloom. Pansies also come in a variety of colors, making them very suitable for decorating flower beds. With their small size and abundant flowers, they are also perfect for balcony potted plants and are very friendly to beginners.
Pansy care methods
Pansies are also commonly known as three-color violet. In fact, pansies and three-color violas are two very similar plants. Both belong to the Viola genus of the Violaceae family, and their plants are almost identical.
Generally speaking, those with smaller flowers are called pansies, while those with larger flowers are called three-color violas. However, with the introduction of many imported varieties, the distinction between pansies and three-color violas has become increasingly blurred. But whether it's a pansy or a three-color viola, the care methods are the same, so there is no need to worry too much about the name.
1. Pansy propagation methods
As a biennial or annual flowering plant, pansies are usually propagated by seeds. The suitable time for sowing is September to October, or in March during spring. However, because pansies are heat-sensitive and often wither in summer, flowers sown in spring may have a shorter blooming period and are harder to achieve a full pot effect. Therefore, it is recommended to sow in autumn.
When do pansies bloom
Pansies come in many colors. The seeds of common colors are relatively inexpensive, while imported varieties have more attractive colors but are more expensive. It is recommended to choose reliable stores to avoid the issue of incorrect versions.
Sowing pansies is relatively simple. Generally, peat soil or universal nutrient soil is used for sowing. A thin layer of soil should be covered over the seeds, and the soil should be kept moist before germination, with a temperature of around 20 degrees. Usually, the seeds can germinate in about 7 days.
What needs to be noted here is that if sowing is too early and the temperature is high, pansy seeds may not germinate easily. In the Zhejiang region, sowing pansies in mid-October usually results in faster germination. However, if sowing is late, the plants may grow slowly due to low temperatures in winter, usually requiring spring for a considerable amount of flowers. If you don't know how to sow, it's more reliable to buy seedlings directly, which can bloom early.
2. Pansy seedling management
When sowing pansies, if there is one seedling per pot, it should be exposed to light promptly after germination. When the crown fills the pot, you can gradually switch to a larger pot. If there are multiple seedlings in one pot, it is necessary to transplant the seedlings when the pansies have 6-10 true leaves. If the seedlings are very dense, the transplanting time should be earlier, otherwise the seedlings may compete for light and easily become leggy.
3. Overwintering management
