Complete Knowledge and Techniques for Flower Cultivation

You may not be familiar with the complete knowledge and techniques for flower cultivation. Please refer to the detailed introduction below.

Many新手 flower growers encounter the problem of not being able to cultivate flowers properly. This can severely affect their confidence and lead to a loss of interest in flower cultivation. Our goal in growing flowers is to make them bloom and thrive, so we can appreciate their lush state and beautiful blossoms. So, how can新手 ensure they don't encounter problems when growing flowers? Today, Xiaoqi will share a collection of flower cultivation tips. Once you learn and master them, you will be able to start from scratch and grow flowers without any issues, and over time, you will become an expert.

1. Don't rush to repot after buying

Usually, we buy flowers from the flower market or online. The flowers we just bought come with a regular pot or directly with a nutrient pot. After buying, don't rush to repot them. Since they are grown in a greenhouse and you are growing them at home, they are not adapted to your home environment. Moreover, after transportation, it's easy to encounter problems like yellowing leaves and root rot due to the change in environment. So, what we should do is to place them in a bright and well-ventilated area first, let them adapt to the environment for a few days, water them when the potting soil dries, and only repot them when they don't lose leaves and the leaves are firm and green, usually after three to five days.

2. Master the technique of repotting

How should we repot flowers? When repotting, don't choose a pot that's too large. Move them from a small pot to a slightly larger one, no more than 1~2 sizes bigger. Avoid using deep or large pots to prevent root rot. Also, when repotting, observe the root condition in the potting soil. If the roots are all outside the soil, gently loosen the roots around and repot directly. If the roots are not outgrown and all you see is soil, remove some of the soil to expose most of the new roots before repotting. This is the correct method.

3. Technique for soil preparation

When repotting flowers at home, choose the right soil. Usually, the ventilation is poor and the light is weak indoors. If the soil becomes compacted, it's easy to get root rot. When preparing soil, ensure it has good ventilation and water permeability. What is well-ventilated and water-permeable soil? Add half of the granules to the soil, and the granules don't need to be too large, about 3 to 6 mm. You can add river sand granules, cinder granules, volcanic rock rainbow stone granules, or even small broken bricks, removing the powder. This kind of soil is well-ventilated and water-permeable.

4. Technique for acclimatization

Usually, after repotting, the roots get damaged. If you throw them directly into the sun, they won't recover. Since the plant is already wilting, the roots can't grow, and nutrients can't be supplied to the leaves and stems. So, we need to acclimatize them. The general method is to place them in a bright and well-ventilated area, and spray water 2~3 times a day on the leaves to absorb some moisture, as the pores will open for photosynthesis and absorb water.

Ensuring the leaves are firm and not wilting, the roots can grow new ones quickly in the moist soil. As the new roots grow longer and more, the plant can recover quickly, grow leaves, and bloom. Once the plant recovers and grows normally, gradually increase the light and supplement some fertilizer for growth. During the acclimatization period, ensure the soil is moist, the environment is well-ventilated, and regularly spray water, but don't fertilize. After growth, follow the normal care methods.

5. Lighting technique

Any plant's growth depends on light. Most flowers we grow are light-loving, but before we grow them, we need to understand the light requirements of the plant. If it loves strong light, don't place it in a low-light environment. If it loves low light, don't expose it to direct sunlight. Place it in a suitable position based on its light requirements to ensure the leaves don't get sunburned or become thin and leggy due to lack of light, and won't shed leaves.

6. Fertilizing technique

When growing flowers in small pots at home, fertilize them regularly. How should you fertilize? It's simple. For leafy plants, use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer with other elements not missing. For flowering plants, use a phosphorus-rich fertilizer with other elements not missing. This will help them grow leaves quickly and bloom when needed. For新手, you can use a multi-element fertilizer, applying it once every 1~2 months, with a low concentration. They won't lack any elements, grow leaves, and bloom, but the growth may be a bit weaker, and blooming may be less frequent.

7. Watering technique

Flowers need to grow in moist soil. When watering flowers indoors, for water-loving plants, water them when the soil surface is dry. This won't cause any problems. For drought-tolerant plants, don't water them frequently, as it can lead to root rot. Ensure the soil is completely dry before watering thoroughly. This won't cause any problems. This is the method we use for watering our plants. Never water when the soil is still wet, as even water-loving plants can easily rot.
