How long does the primrose bloom?
Abstract: This article discusses the blooming period of primroses and some basic knowledge of caring for flowers that bloom throughout the year. Let's learn more about it together.
Introduction:
During the Spring Festival, I had planned not to write any articles, but spending a few hours every day writing has become a habit. Not writing makes me feel empty and as if I'm missing something. In the end, I still sit down at the computer to type. For the flowers I love and for all of you who also love flowers, let's continue to share some knowledge on primrose care today. Thanks to everyone who reads this article; we all work hard!
Primrose Introduction:
Primroses are perennial herbaceous plants with a矮小 (dwarf) growth habit, elliptical base leaves with wavy edges; the flowers are bright and colorful, blooming from December each year and lasting until the spring warm season in April. When the whole world is still covered in white snow, they quietly bloom beautiful flowers, adding vivid colors to the white world, as if they can't wait to tell everyone that spring is coming.
Primrose Growth Habits:
Primroses are native to Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and other regions in China. They prefer warm climates, are not frost-resistant, and dislike high temperatures and intense heat. Like most southern flowers, they also enjoy a humid growing environment and are not drought-resistant. They are usually found on the sides of rivers and under the shade of trees in forests, so they do not tolerate direct strong sunlight and prefer loose, humus-rich neutral soil. The best growing temperature throughout the year is between 10-25 degrees Celsius.
During the Spring Festival, it is the blooming period for primroses, but some flower friends have reported that they still have not seen primroses bloom. What could be the reason? You may not have done well in these areas, let's start analyzing:
One, Cultivation Soil:
Although primroses are southern flowers, they are different from other southern flowers. They have their unique preferences in soil selection. Generally, southern flowers prefer acidic soil, but primroses cannot be planted in acidic soil. The soil suitable for them is rich in calcium and iron, neutral soil. Of course, if you are growing the most beautiful European primroses at home, you can use slightly acidic soil.
In terms of soil mixing, flower friends can use 2 parts of decomposed leaf soil + 1 part of garden soil + 1 part of peat, and add some decomposed soybean cake fertilizer and dried crushed eggshells at the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer when potting. If you don't have garden soil at home, you can also buy nutrient soil, perlite, etc., to ensure good drainage.
Flower friends can check if there is a problem with the soil configuration during cultivation, which may lead to fewer flowers or even no blooms.
Two, Suitable Temperature:
Although most primroses will bloom in winter, they are not cold-resistant. The best growing temperature throughout the year is between 10-25 degrees Celsius. The winter care temperature must not be lower than 0 degrees, otherwise, it will be frostbitten. If you want it to bloom in winter, you must control the care temperature at above 10 degrees, preferably maintaining it at around 15-20 degrees. Appropriate temperature differences are more beneficial for early blooming, such as maintaining a daytime temperature of 20 degrees and a nighttime temperature of 10 degrees.
Once the primroses have bloomed, it is necessary to keep the day and night temperatures stable at around 10-14 degrees Celsius to prevent flower bud drop due to excessive temperature differences. If the primroses you are growing have not bloomed or the flower buds have fallen off, you can check if the breeding temperature has not been controlled properly.
When growing in a northern heating room, be aware that the indoor temperature is high, and the ambient temperature around the primroses will increase if exposed to sunlight during the day. If it exceeds 30 degrees, not only will it not bloom but also its growth will slow down. Flower friends should ventilate in time to lower the room temperature and reduce the dryness of the air, thus reducing the chance of诱发 diseases and pests.
How long does the primrose bloom?
Three, Lighting Conditions:
Primroses like scattered light and are afraid of direct strong sunlight. Although it is winter now, the intensity of sunlight in southern regions in winter is also not low. If exposed to strong sunlight, it is still necessary to遮去 (shield off) some of the light, otherwise, the leaves will turn yellow.
Other regions can place them in a well-lit window sill or other areas for care, but the daylight hours should be maintained at 8-10 hours. If the daylight hours are too long, it will only grow leaves and fail to produce flower buds, so it will not bloom.
In winter, when growing on a window sill indoors, remember to move the potted plant to the living room or other areas away from the window at night to avoid cold wind from entering the window gaps and freezing the plants, or the glass being too cold and damaging the leaves close to it. In addition to staying away from the glass window sill, it should also be kept away from indoor heat sources such as air conditioners and radiators to prevent the leaves from drying out.
Four, Water Control:
The growth habits mentioned at the beginning of the article have briefly introduced that primroses are flowers that like humid environments and are not drought-resistant. Although it is rare for them to die of drought in winter, it is now their blooming period, and watering still requires some attention, otherwise, one不小心 can cause the flower buds to fall off or wither.
Although primroses like moisture, they, like most flowers, are very afraid of waterlogging. Generally, from autumn, it is necessary to reduce watering. In the early winter, primroses need to produce flower buds and therefore require some water. Flower friends need to supplement water in time, but be careful not to water too much to prevent waterlogging around the roots, leading to rot and necrosis; once the roots rot, the leaves will start to wilt and turn yellow, and the flower buds will fall off at the touch. If your primroses have this condition, the most likely reason is that too much water was poured.
Flower friends can water every 3-5 days, adjusting freely according to the weather and temperature. On cloudy and rainy days with no sunlight, when water evaporation is slow, you can slightly extend the watering time. If the indoor temperature is high and the air is dry, you should water in time. Each time, there is no need to water too much to prevent积水, and it's best to water when the soil is dry and wet.
Five, Nutrient Supplement:
Most flowers do not require nutrients during winter dormancy, but primroses are in their blooming period and therefore cannot lack fertilizer.
In winter, which is the peak growing season for primroses, it is generally necessary to supplement high-nitrogen organic liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer liquid every 15 days. In the bud formation stage, the fertilization strategy needs to be changed, and nitrogen fertilizer should be stopped to prevent leaf luxuriance and the inability to produce flower stems; instead, switch to applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, which can be sprayed once every 10-15 days with 0.1% of "Flower More 2" to promote bud differentiation and extend the blooming period.
Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers twice, and immediately stop applying any fertilizer after the flowers are fully bloomed. If the primroses you are growing at home still do not bloom after excluding the above factors, you can spray 2-3 times with a dilute phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and flower buds will soon form.
