Today, the focus is on the problem of yellowing in old leaves. Recently, the phenomenon of yellowing in old leaves of Chinese roses is frequent, mainly due to the following five reasons.
1. Drought
In this stage, most areas have just entered summer, and after the first bloom of Chinese roses is pruned, new branches have already grown, and some have even begun to bud. At this time, the demand for fertilizer and water is relatively high.
However, due to frequent rainfall, many flower enthusiasts have a misconception that the pots of Chinese roses do not lack water. In fact, rain cannot completely wet the potting soil, and the plants may not show signs of water shortage on cloudy days, but once the sun comes out, the Chinese roses will quickly show signs of water shortage.
This applies not only to Chinese roses outdoors but also to those grown on balconies indoors. It is easy to have a drought, especially during continuous cloudy and rainy days, many flower enthusiasts do not water or are busy at work and neglect watering, leading to drought.
When we find that the leaves of Chinese roses are soft and lack water, we should water them in time. At the moment, there may be no abnormality, but often after two or three days, a large number of yellow leaves will appear in old leaves. This is the sequelae of drought. In this case, it is necessary to remove the yellow leaves in time and maintain the potting soil slightly moist.
Acutely drought is relatively easy to detect and deal with, but when there is a slow drought in the pot, it may not be so easy to distinguish.
Especially with the current weather, which is not very hot, slow drought is more likely to occur than acute drought. When the potting soil is always slightly dry, Chinese roses will choose to abandon some old leaves, which is manifested as yellowing and falling off of old leaves.
Watering Chinese roses is a very skilled management task. Chinese roses are intolerant to both wet and dry conditions and require us to arrange watering time and amount of water according to the growth of the plant, weather conditions, and environmental ventilation, to maintain moist and not dry, and water thoroughly when watering.
