Which bulbs are suitable for cultivation during the Start of Winter season
The editor introduces you to the bulbs suitable for cultivation during the Start of Winter and the recommended three types of bulbs for green plants and flowers. Let's learn about them together below.
After entering the Start of Winter solar term, the weather gets colder day by day, the trees on the road start to turn yellow and shed leaves, and the flowers also wither one after another. In the eyes of most people, winter is a season when everything withers. Few people know that some special flower varieties can only be planted in this season. For example, the three "bulb flowers" introduced today are best planted after winter. Planting now can result in blooming in the second spring.
Lilium
Lilium, also known as mountain dan or inverted immortals, is native to China and is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Liliaceae family, Lilium genus, symbolizing "百年好合" (hundred years of good union). There are many varieties of lilies, with general plant heights of 70~150 centimeters. The stems are upright and sturdy, and the leaves are green. The flowers are funnel-shaped, like big trumpets, with rich colors and strong fragrance, making them highly ornamental and an excellent choice for potted plants.
Planting Method
Planting lilies is very simple. First, prepare the pot, lily bulbs, and soil in advance. The pot should be deep; nutrient-rich soil can be purchased commercially in bags or can also be mixed by hand: using 1 part decayed leaf soil, 1 part garden soil, 1 part coarse river sand, and a small amount of organic fertilizer, mix all materials evenly for planting.
First, put the soil in the pot and fill it to 9/10 full. Then, dig several small holes in the soil and plant the lily bulbs in these holes. Don't plant too many bulbs; generally, for a pot with a diameter of 20 centimeters, planting 2 to 3 bulbs is enough. Lily bulbs don't need to be planted too deep; they can be completely buried in the soil or the top of the bulb can be left exposed above the soil surface.
Which bulbs are suitable for cultivation during the Start of Winter season
Water the freshly planted lily pot thoroughly and place it in a shady and well-ventilated area to care for 1-2 weeks. The bulbs will slowly sprout. After sprouting, you can move the pot to a location with good lighting and care normally.
Special Note
If the temperature at home is relatively low, the lilies planted in winter may wither in the late winter. There's no need to worry, this is a normal situation. As long as flower friends water occasionally and care normally, the bulbs will sprout again in the second spring and bloom soon.
