Hangzhou Bell prefers a cool and humid environment with moderate sunlight and good ventilation. It is afraid of strong sunlight and high-temperature exposure and dislikes rain in summer. Spring is its growing season, and watering can be based on the condition of the leaves and the dryness of the soil. Water it when the soil is dry and the leaves are wilted.
If Hangzhou Bell does not grow for a long time, the soil may not be very good. In spring, replace it with loose and breathable decomposed leaf soil, add some river sand and vermiculite to increase air permeability, and use decomposed bone meal or chicken manure as a base fertilizer, which will definitely help it grow well.
When do lantern flowers bloom?
Since the blooming period of Hangzhou Bell is so long, the root system also has a high demand for fertilizer. In addition to the base fertilizer, some chemical fertilizers should also be applied regularly. Use Huaduo No.1 during the growing season and occasionally use monopotassium phosphate; when the flower buds appear, use Huaduo No.2; after the flowers have bloomed, remove the残花 first, prune a bit, and then apply some balanced fertilizer.
Hangzhou Bell has many flower buds each time it bears buds. In order to save nutrients and ensure that each flower blooms to standard, we should also thin the buds, removing the extra ones. Don't greedy and don't hesitate to cut them, otherwise the flower buds will fall and the flowers will be incomplete.
Don't move the pot arbitrarily during the budding period. Its root system is very sensitive to the environment, and moving the pot can cause the flower buds to fall and wither. When it is blooming, it needs more water, and it's fine to water it every one or two days. Avoid direct sunlight and place it in a bright location.
