How to plant bowl lotus and how long it takes to bloom in hydroponics
Today's lifestyle tip introduces the planting method of bowl lotus in hydroponics, how long it takes to bloom, and the related introduction of green plant flowers, such as the treatment method of bowl lotus seeds. Please see the detailed introduction below.
How long does it take for bowl lotus to germinate and bloom after planting? It takes about 60-80 days from planting to blooming! The planting of bowl lotus is divided into two types:
1. Planting with rhizome (藕节)
This propagation method has a fast germination speed and a short blooming cycle, approximately 60 days to see the first lotus flower. It can be planted at a temperature of around 10 degrees Celsius, and it can grow normally at around 20 degrees Celsius. It will bloom at around 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, planting bowl lotus with rhizomes can basically bloom from March to May in the same year.
2. Using seed propagation
This is a slower method. Before planting, the seed coat of the embryo needs to be cut with scissors because the outer skin of the seed is dense and hard, making it difficult to breathe and absorb water, which affects development and accelerates the germination of bowl lotus. Seed propagation can be done in soil or hydroponics. I use hydroponics, and generally, the seeds can germinate in 3-7 days. However, the growth is affected by the seed coat, which is relatively slow. It takes 10-15 days to grow out of the water surface and is susceptible to wind, as strong wind can easily break it. This growth period is usually between 80-100 days, so in a natural state, it is necessary to soak or grow in soil before April to see lotus flowers, otherwise, it will have to wait until the next year. However, it is different in a greenhouse.
Bowl lotus planting and care tips:
1. Bowl lotus prefers an environment with plenty of light, such as a balcony or windowsill. Otherwise, it affects the differentiation of flower buds, the development of flower buds, and blooming. Therefore, it should be placed in a hydroponic environment with plenty of light and calm water surface and avoid placing it in a windward position to prevent the stem and leaf stalks from breaking.
2. It prefers fertile soil or water quality. For soil cultivation, it is recommended to use a mixture of 3 parts pond mud and 1 part animal manure, which makes the soil fertile and loose. Fertilize after the leaves grow 2-3, once every 3 weeks, using decomposed cake fertilizer or cake fertilizer water, or compound fertilizer. For hydroponics, control the pH around 6.5. Start fertilizing after the leaves grow out of the water surface, once every half month, preferably with decomposed cake fertilizer water.
3. Add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in May to promote flowering and increase the flower disc size. Generally, 2-3 fertilizations before blooming are sufficient.
