The lotus has always been a frequent guest in the writings of scholars and literati in ancient times. Nowadays, those who appreciate elegant styles will also place a large water jar at home, grow one, and enjoy the blooming of the flowers in midsummer, savoring the clarity and elegance of the lotus. Compared to lotus flowers, water lilies appear more frequently in home potted plants. On one hand, they don't require a large water jar to hold the lotus root, and on the other hand, water lilies are easier to care for. However, some flower friends have reported that their water lilies have leaves but no flower buds under sufficient light. Why is that?
Water lilies not blooming? Here are 3 reasons for non-blooming, see if you've made any mistakes.

1. Pond mud determines whether it blooms. Many新手 who start growing water lilies have little experience and only know to directly place the seeds or tubers in water. After a period of time, the water lilies sprout leaves, looking lush and vigorous. All other conditions are suitable, but no flower buds appear during the flowering period. Pond mud plays an absolute role in the care of water lilies. Without it, even if the growth state is good, it will not enter the flowering period. If conditions do not allow, you can ask the seller if they have pond mud and buy it together. After the water lily grows to 3-4 inches, move it to a holeless pot with pond mud and then place the pot at the bottom of the water jar, submerging the pot with water.
2. Check if the water lily has sufficient light. Our current living environment generally does not have excellent lighting conditions. Water lilies are indeed light-loving plants. Under full sunlight, the flowering period is normal, while overly shaded environments often cause the stems and leaves to grow excessively. Friends with a courtyard can move the water jar to a well-lit position in the courtyard, slightly shading it at noon in the summer. Those without a courtyard should place it in the best position for ventilation and lighting.
3. Check if the water level of the water lily is appropriate. Although the water level is not a key factor affecting whether it blooms, it does relate to the growth state of the water lily and has an impact. In the early growth stage, the leaves of the water lily are small, and the stems are not long, so the water level should be reduced appropriately to avoid the water lily focusing only on growing stems and excessively consuming nutrients. In the vigorous growth stage, the water level should be adjusted to the maximum, which is beneficial for the leaves to become wider and larger and for the flower stems to emerge as scheduled.
Why don't water lilies bloom?
The color of water lilies is more varied than that of lotus flowers, and the flowers generally float on the water surface, without tall flower stems. In windy and rainy weather, they do not fall or break. Water lilies are also relatively easy to care for and can basically survive in water. However, in summer, the hot weather can easily breed mosquitoes in the water, so it is important to change the water or kill pests appropriately according to the growth of the water lilies.
