How to deal with hyacinths after they bloom
Today's introduction to the bulbous flower hyacinth, how to deal with hyacinths after they bloom. Let's take a look together.
There have already been several articles on how to deal with hyacinths after they bloom, but different editors have different opinions. Although it is not the season for hyacinths now, I found some pictures of hyacinths after they bloomed on my phone. I took the time to write down some tips for flower enthusiasts to refer to!
Firstly, let's talk about whether hyacinths can continue to be cultivated in the second year after they bloom. Hyacinths can rebloom in the second year, but they won't be as full as in the first year (as shown in the picture below). Due to the hydroponic situation, not all bulbs are worth keeping until autumn to be planted again.
The conclusion is: if the hyacinth bulbs are still large enough (the four bulbs in the picture below, the two in the middle are worth keeping, and the ones on the sides are not necessary, of course, flower enthusiasts can keep them if they wish), and there is no decay, they can be saved and planted again in the autumn. Storage is simple: wrap them in newspaper and place them in a cool and well-ventilated area.
Hydroponic bulbs are recommended to be discarded and new bulbs can be purchased next year, as the nutrients in hydroponic bulbs are almost all consumed and they have no value to keep.
Now that we understand the reblooming of hyacinths, let's talk about how to deal with hyacinths after they bloom. After the hyacinth flowering period is over, cut the flower stem, and there is a chance to produce a second flower spike (this is a probabilistic event, as the small flowers in the picture below are the second bloom).
Of course, if no new flower spike appears, how should we deal with it? At this time, we do not need to take special measures, just maintain normal care. Water when the soil is dry, and if you have fertilizer at home, you can give some. Remember to apply thin layers of fertilizer frequently. As summer approaches and temperatures rise, the leaves of hyacinths will naturally become wilted and withered. Flower enthusiasts can dig up the bulbs when they are almost withered, wrap them in newspaper, and place them in a cool and well-ventilated area. Start replanting again after the National Day holiday. The pictures of hyacinths blooming in the second year can be referred to in the first picture, which are not full but still able to bloom.
