How to Care for Newly Purchased Hippeastrum
As a highly favored bulbous flower, newly acquired Hippeastrum requires scientific care to bloom magnificent flowers. This article will systematically explain 6 key steps from bulb treatment to daily maintenance, helping flower enthusiasts master the essence of cultivating Hippeastrum.
Complete Process of Hippeastrum Bulb Treatment
Root Pruning Techniques
After opening, first check the condition of the roots, use a sterilized scissor to obliquely cut off the blackened and shriveled fibrous roots, retaining healthy roots with a diameter of ≥2mm. Note that the cut should be smooth to avoid tearing the tissue.
Bulb Watering Method
Soak the treated bulb in warm water at 25-30℃ (kelp extract can be added) for 2 hours, with the water level covering 1/3 of the bulb. In winter, it is recommended to extend to 3 hours, and in summer, shorten to 1.5 hours.
Key Points of Hippeastrum Environmental Regulation
Substrate Mixing Scheme
Recommended ratio: peat soil 40% + perlite 30% + pine bark 20% + bone meal 10%. Choose a red pottery or green mountain pot for the flower pot, with 3-5 drainage holes at the bottom, and the pot diameter should be 5cm larger than the bulb.
Temperature Gradient Management
Keep the temperature at 15-18℃ during the day and 8-12℃ at night during the slow seedling period, which can be achieved by transitioning through an air-conditioned room. Increase to 20-25℃ during the growing period, and keeping the temperature difference within 8℃ can promote bud differentiation.
Light Intensity Adjustment
Initially place it on the east-facing windowsill to receive morning light for 3 hours, gradually transitioning to full sun. From 10:00 to 15:00 in summer, sunshade net protection is needed to maintain a light intensity of 5000-8000lux.
Through the above systematic maintenance, the Hippeastrum bulb will complete bud development within 45-60 days. Regularly observe the leaf condition and adjust the maintenance strategy in combination with seasonal changes, and you will surely harvest stunning Hippeastrum inflorescences.
