How to cultivate carnation seedlings? Illustration of the entire growth process of carnations.

Carnation Seedling Growth Process

As a noble flower, what amazing transformations does the carnation go through from a seedling to full bloom? What are the key points of care during its growing period? Follow our lens to record the true growth images and unlock the key code to cultivate healthy plants.

Three Stages of Carnation Seedling Growth

Germination Stage (Weeks 1-3)

Newly sprouted seedlings are as delicate as jade, with the radicle weaving a life network in the soil. It is recommended to use a breathable substrate of vermiculite and peat soil, maintaining a constant temperature of 22°C. Water with a spray bottle in the early morning to avoid direct sunlight at noon. If the leaves turn yellow, spray diluted amino acid foliar fertilizer at a ratio of 1:1000.

Stem and Leaf Development Stage (Weeks 4-8)

During this stage, the stem grows 0.5 cm per day. It is recommended to apply a water-soluble fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 15-5-10 every week. The first topping should be done when the fourth pair of true leaves unfolds to promote branching. Special attention should be paid to keeping the day-night temperature difference within 8°C, with a minimum night temperature of 16°C to prevent excessive growth.

Floral Bud Differentiation Stage (After Week 9)

The appearance of rice-like protuberances at the top of the leaf axils signals the floral bud. At this point, switch to a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer as the main nutrient. Ensure 6 hours of direct sunlight daily, and rotate the pot by 15 degrees weekly to ensure even lighting. When the flower bud shows color, spray 0.1% phosphorus acid hydrogen potassium to extend the flowering period.

From the first flower bud blooming, the flowering period can last 3-5 months. Harvest flowers with 3 sepals in the morning and place them in 5°C water to keep them fresh for 15 days. After flowering, trim the remaining flowers promptly, leaving 3 basal branches for secondary sprouting.
