Many flower friends have their own experience in caring for Geraniums, and some are new to it. This article is written by flower friend Song Yong Yuying at the request of many flower friends, telling about his own experience in raising Geraniums.
1. Located in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang area, on the 3rd floor balcony. The highest temperature in summer is often between 35-40 degrees, lasting for 1 and a half months, and the lowest temperature in winter is between -3 to -7 degrees.
2. Media, Da Han or Pinshi peat + perlite in any proportion, base fertilizer, fermented pig manure fertilizer, liquid fertilizer, must be prosperous and bloom, dilute a little when watering, and sometimes apply some Ogreen granular fertilizer.
3. In summer, follow the principle of watering when dry and watering thoroughly, of course, not waiting until it is completely dry before watering, but watering thoroughly when the pot is light enough to lift, usually watering 2-3 times. Because the first watering usually flows away, watering several times ensures that the soil absorbs enough water. In high summer temperatures, place it on the north balcony, as it is on the 3rd floor, so ventilation is good, and there is an awning above, so it usually doesn't get rained on except during thunderstorms. (Basically, ventilation, avoiding rain, less watering, and the soil should be breathable in summer). Also, do not use a large pot before summer, as this year's greed led to the death of a few plants in large pots. Moreover, the north balcony is directly exposed to the sun after 2 pm, so the temperature is not low, usually above 37 degrees, even up to 38-40 degrees, even with sunshade netting.
4. It is necessary to back up young seedlings before summer, and the seedlings should be prepared early, preferably before May, or else the seedlings in June may not survive the hot summer. Stop fertilizing in summer. Apply a slow-release fertilizer before summer.
5. It is very necessary to pinch the young Geraniums during the growing season, and complete the pinching before budding. Generally, no pinching is needed after March. May is the full blooming period.
6. After flowering, do light pruning, not too aggressive, as it is about to go through summer, cutting too much can easily cause them to fall off. Wait until autumn for major pruning, which is safer.
