How to grow Asian lilies
Here is an introduction to the Asian lily, a bulbous flower, detailing how to care for it. The editor will provide an introduction.
Most of the lilies purchased by flower enthusiasts are Asian lilies. Some enthusiasts have summarized their experiences in potting Asian lilies, and have also introduced their advantages and disadvantages, which are very helpful for新手 flower enthusiasts.
In recent years, every spring in March, I plant some lilies on my balcony. This is because it only takes about 3 months from planting to flowering, and it is easy to care for, making it a bulbous flower I love! Initially, to better suit my balcony planting environment, after learning from the experiences of masters on forums, I chose a dwarf variety of Asian lilies (Asiatic). The advantages of this variety are: a variety of colors, sturdy plants, many flower buds, rapid propagation, and good reblooming. The disadvantages are: they have no fragrance, and it is very easy to cause bud drop when there is insufficient light. Although oriental lilies have a fragrance, their tall and sturdy stems make them more suitable for ground planting. The lily varieties usually sold in flower shops are these oriental lilies.
This year, the flowering period of Asian lilies has ended and it has been nearly a month since the end of July. I am currently in the process of caring for the bulbs. I would like to briefly share some of my experiences in growing Asian lilies over the past three years, hoping it will be helpful for flower enthusiasts who are planting potted Asian lilies for the first time.
First point: Bulbs. When purchasing bulbs for the first time online, be sure to choose a reputable and reliable seller. This ensures the variety and quality of the bulbs. After receiving the bulbs, they are usually soaked in water mixed with carbendazim at a proportional concentration for杀菌, for about half an hour. Then, they are taken out and dried before planting.
Second point: Soil. Lilies do not have high requirements for soil, with loose and breathable soil being the main consideration. I used new, beautiful soil in the first year, and afterwards, I used old soil. Since old soil lacks fertility, it is necessary to apply enough base fertilizer. I usually use a combination of compound granular fertilizer and magic fertilizer as the base fertilizer (I have stopped using organic fertilizer because it easily causes the growth of small black flies that困扰 balcony gardeners).
Third point: Planting and fertilizing. In terms of pot planting, I have always used the method of planting three bulbs in a one-gallon pot. When planting, make sure to place the bulbs in a triangular shape against the pot wall, which will make the overall plant shape more beautiful in the later growth stage. Then, cover the bulbs with soil about 5CM deep and water thoroughly for the first time. After the seedlings emerge, water normally and care for them. Fertilizing should follow the principle of frequent application of thin fertilizer. I usually alternate between using "Flower More 1" and "Flower More 2" until the flowering period.
Fourth point: Light. During the care period, make sure there is sufficient light, with at least 3-6 hours of sunlight per day. Otherwise, it is very easy to cause bud drop, which also affects the enjoyment of flowers.
Fifth point: Post-flowering care and storage. After the flowers fade, to strengthen the bulbs, continue to use "Flower More 1" for topdressing. Sometimes I also sprinkle some compound granular fertilizer on the soil surface to ensure nutritional needs. Afterward, just wait for the stems to wither naturally before digging up the bulbs. After digging up the lilies, clean them properly and dry them in a shaded place, then pack them into a sealed bag or box and store them in the refrigerator's冷藏室. In the following spring, divide the bulbs according to their size and plant them in separate pots.
