Main content introduction: Topics related to herbaceous flowers, the cultivation methods of Medinilla magnifica (Money Tree, Coin Tree, Snow Iron芋), next, the site editor will introduce to netizens.

Medinilla magnifica belongs to the family Araceae, a monocotyledonous plant. It contains a Money Tree, also known as Coin Tree, Snow Iron芋, or Zamioculcas zamiifolia, which is a perennial herbaceous plant 45-60 cm tall distributed in East Africa. It sheds leaves during drought and survives by storing water in its tuberous roots similar to potatoes. Pinnate compound leaves, 40-60 cm long, with 6-8 pairs of smooth, dark green leaves 7-15 cm long. Spathe花序, small flowers that are light yellow, brown, or bronze, with some hidden in the leaf bases. It blooms from mid-summer to early autumn. The whole plant is toxic and not edible, but it can be used as an ornamental plant.

It can live outdoors when the temperature is not lower than 15 degrees Celsius, preferably between 18-26 degrees. It grows leaves rapidly in high temperatures and is generally kept as a houseplant in temperate regions. It prefers dry conditions and can easily rot roots if overwatered. It enjoys strong indirect light and can tolerate a small amount of direct sunlight when the temperature is not high, and it can also survive in darker conditions.

When the Money Tree's fleshy roots are moldy and most of the fibrous roots are broken, and the leaves become wilted and yellow, first clean the moldy part and directly cut off the injured fibrous roots; the grooves in the sunken part of the fleshy tuberous roots accumulate decayed root skin debris, which needs to be removed with tweezers; the blackened moldy parts should be scraped off with a small knife until the healthy white roots are exposed.

If parasites are found in the roots during the cleaning process, it may be because the Money Tree is growing in a crowded environment with rich soil, which is a breeding ground for pests. The injured roots may rot due to decay or injury, and such extensive decay and root pruning must be disinfected. After wiping twice with absorbent cotton soaked in high-proof alcohol, the roots were soaked in the alcohol solution for two minutes. They need to be dried for two days, or until the root wounds are slightly dehydrated.

The soil mixture is a combination of garden soil with one-fourth sand and one-eighth coal slag, boiled with hot water, then dried outside on the balcony until half-dry. Using simple soil and moist soil for dry sowing can reduce the risk of infection if there are many plants. When the weather gets hot, spray some water on the leaves every two days. Normal watering and scattered light environment for cultivation. After two months of care, the leaves of the branches will become glossy again.
