Cyclamen Post-Flowering Management
This article provides an introduction to the bulbous flower Cyclamen, focusing on post-flowering management. Let's dive into the details.
Cyclamen is not cold-tolerant nor heat-tolerant. It prefers a moist environment but is afraid of waterlogging. It enjoys light but avoids direct strong sunlight. In summer, temperatures above 35°C can cause decay. In winter, when temperatures drop below 5°C, the corms are prone to frost damage. When the temperature is above 30°C, the corms enter dormancy. At this time, you can place Cyclamen in a cool, rainy shelter outdoors and reduce watering. It's best to keep the potting mix slightly dry, but be careful not to let it get too dry to prevent the corms from shrinking or delaying sprouting and flowering, allowing them to enter a dormant state safely.
After Cyclamen flowers, as the temperature rises, the above-ground parts will gradually wither and enter a state of summer dormancy. During the dormant period, place the pot with the plant in a cool, well-ventilated north-facing balcony or room, and continue regular care. When watering, make sure to water thoroughly to keep the corms firm. During dormancy, the plant requires little fertilizer, so there is no need to add more. When the weather cools down and autumn arrives, new buds will sprout, marking the beginning of the next growing season.
In the second half of September, when Cyclamen is about to sprout and grow, repot and change the soil. Use a sandy soil rich in humus and preferably sterilize it at high temperatures for half an hour (either by steaming or pouring boiling water over it). When the corm is one-third exposed above the soil, remove the yellow leaves.
During the growing period, apply a thin liquid fertilizer with a focus on phosphorus every 10 days (do not let the water overflow the top of the corm during regular care, and avoid pouring it on the flower buds and young leaves, as this can easily cause decay). Gradually expose the plant to more sunlight and prevent the leaf stalks from growing too long. When the flower stem is about to bloom, you can add bone meal. During the flowering period, apply some water-soluble high-efficiency nutrient solution.
This concludes the post-flowering management of Cyclamen, providing you with a comprehensive understanding and reference.
