A string of red family maintenance techniques

For most women, the experience of growing a string of red flowers at home, the string of red family maintenance techniques, let's take a look together!

A string of red, also known as Western red, red under the wall, firecracker red, belongs to the Labiatae, Salvia perennial herbaceous flowers. It prefers warm, humid climate and sufficient light environment, with both calyx and corolla in red. The normal blooming period of a string of red is from September to November, but with special management and maintenance, it can bloom multiple times a year.

In mid to late November, move the vigorous string of red pot plants into the room, place them in a sunny spot, and perform a major pruning, leaving only the lower 2 to 3 sets of leaves, and pruning the top part. Fertilize every 7 days to promote the growth of new shoots from the axillary buds. From mid-December to early January, perform indoor cutting, cutting 5 to 7 centimeters long healthy new shoots as cuttings, which need to be cut 0.5 centimeters below the node. Leave 2 to 3 top leaves, remove the rest, insert them into the culture soil, with a depth of 1/3 of the total length, water thoroughly, and after about 18 days at a room temperature of 15°C to 25°C, they can take root. At this point, they can be potted for maintenance.

From late January to February, pinch the new plants 1 to 2 times to promote more lateral branching. In mid-March, set the top, leaving 5 to 7 branches per plant, fertilize 1 to 2 times a month, and spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate once to promote blooming in mid to late April, which will be bright and lush. After flowering in May, perform a major pruning, leaving only 2 sets of leaves on each branch, prune the top part, and fertilize every 10 days or so. From late June to mid-July, the flowers will bloom lushly.

In early August, repeat the above pruning method and set the top in mid-August, which can make the plants enter the full bloom period before the National Day, decorating the festival. After the flowers fade in early October, perform the above operations again, which can make the string of red bloom again in mid to late November.

The key to making a string of red bloom multiple times is to prune promptly after flowering and to strengthen water and fertilizer management to make the axillary buds grow into flower buds. Generally, new branches develop flower buds when they have 4 sets of leaves, and the fifth internode forms flower buds and blooms. As long as the appropriate temperature, sufficient water and fertilizer, and regular pruning are ensured, it is possible to achieve multiple blooms in a year.

The above comprehensive introduction to the string of red family maintenance techniques, hoping to bring some knowledge about green plants to green plant enthusiasts.
