Soft Leaf Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii) is also known as Beautiful Needle Palm, Beautiful Treasure Palm, Prince Rupi Coconut, and Prince Rupi Date Palm. It belongs to the Palmaceae family, Date Palm genus. It is an evergreen woody plant, native to Southeast Asia, with the highest distribution in Laos. It has been introduced and cultivated in China, with a small amount cultivated nationwide. It grows to a height of 1-3 meters and is a popular indoor foliage plant.
The Soft Leaf Date Palm has strong adaptability and is easy to cultivate and care for. During the growing season, in the intense sunlight from June to September, it should be shaded to maintain 60% light transmission. In other seasons, it should be provided with ample sunlight. The soil should be kept alternately dry and wet, with the soil kept moist during the vigorous growth period. When the climate is dry, the plant should be sprayed with water 1-2 times a day to increase the humidity of the surrounding air. Although it tolerates poor soil, with sufficient fertilizer, it grows vigorously with lush and pleasing foliage. From May to September, apply manure or a nitrogen-based compound fertilizer twice a month.

This plant is commonly propagated by播种 (播种 means sowing), and it can also be propagated using suckers from the stem. The method involves cutting the suckers with a clean, sharp knife in early summer and then burying them in pond mud, slightly exposed, placed in a bright, diffused light area, keeping them moist. After new leaves grow, apply a thin layer of fertilizer. By the next spring, you can plant and care for it in a suitable small pot.
Propagation is commonly done by sowing. The fruit is sown immediately after ripening or in April of the following year. It takes 2-3 months to germinate, and the seedlings are separated in the spring of the next year.
