Iris suaveolens is native to North America and is an annual rosette herb. The fibrous roots are thin and yellowish-white, with many branches. Bracts 5-7, the outer 2 are narrowly lanceolate, the edges are membranous, green, 2-2.5 cm long, the inner 3-5 are membranous, colorless and transparent, containing 4-6 flowers; the flowers are light purple, the throat is yellow, the diameter is 0.8-1 cm; the pedicels are thread-like, about 2.5 cm long.

The perianth tube is very short, with villi, the inner and outer tepals are similar in shape and size, arranged in 2 whorls, obovate to oblanceolate, about 1.2 cm long, about 4 mm wide, apex acuminate, white, with light purple stripes, spreading, claw-shaped, bright yellow, and with浓 purple spots.

There are 3 stamens, the upper part of the filaments is separated, the lower part is fused into a tube, enclosing the pistil, surrounded by a large number of glandular hairs, the anthers are bright yellow; the pistil is thread-like, the upper part is 3-lobed, the ovary is spherical, green, with villi. The fruit is spherical, 2.5-4 mm in diameter, yellowish-brown or brownish, dehiscent when mature; the seeds are numerous, blackish-brown. Flowering period is May, fruiting period is June to August.
