How to care for hydroponic lucky bamboo after it takes root
A small knowledge of experience, introducing how to care for hydroponic lucky bamboo after it takes root and the tips for maintaining lucky bamboo. Let's get to know together.
It is not difficult to keep hydroponic lucky bamboo alive, and it is also easy to transition from soil cultivation to hydroponics. However, if you want the leaves of hydroponic lucky bamboo to grow vigorously and avoid yellowing, certain skills are needed. Besides a suitable environment, you need to learn to change the water, provide proper lighting, and regularly supplement nutrient solutions.
Hydroponic lucky bamboo generally has two forms. One is more natural, removing the leaves at the bottom of the branches and soaking them in clean water to let the branches and leaves grow naturally.
The other is hydroponic lucky bamboo with bent branches, some of which are spiral-shaped and some are made into heart shapes. The top of these hydroponic lucky bamboo branches is sealed with wax to prevent further growth and prevent wound infection.
I. Transitioning from soil to hydroponic lucky bamboo
Transitioning from soil to hydroponic lucky bamboo is relatively easy. Simply remove the plant from the pot, cut off a part of the overly vigorous roots at the bottom, clean with clean water, remove the leaves at the bottom of the branches, and then directly place them in a hydroponic container. It is best to use a transparent container so that the root growth can be seen clearly.
How to care for hydroponic lucky bamboo after it takes root
In the early stage of transitioning from soil to hydroponics, some leaves at the bottom of the branches will turn yellow and wither, which is normal. The growth of new roots consumes nutrients. You can spray water on the leaves, provide 3 to 6 hours of soft scattered light, and pay attention to maintaining ventilation and humidity. As long as some white new roots grow at the bottom of the hydroponic lucky bamboo, it means the hydroponic process has succeeded.
If other green plants are transitioned from soil to hydroponics, after the roots take hold, some of the roots (about 1/3 of the roots) can be left exposed above the water surface to reduce the risk of root rot.
II. The environment for hydroponic lucky bamboo
There are two situations for caring for hydroponic lucky bamboo. Before the white new roots grow, it can be placed near a window sill, such as an east or north-facing window sill, with more than 3 hours of soft scattered light daily. Change the water every 3 to 5 days to keep the water fresh, maintain a temperature between 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, keep the air humidity above 65%, and ensure good ventilation to promote the rapid growth of white new roots in the lucky bamboo.
If the roots of the hydroponic lucky bamboo are growing vigorously, it can maintain a good condition whether it is kept under artificial lighting or in an environment with soft scattered light. There is no need to change the water frequently; you can change the water when it becomes cloudy, maintaining bright lighting and a certain level of humidity. In spring, summer, and autumn, supplement a few drops of nutrient solution every 3 to 4 weeks, and it will grow well.
