Is it suitable to plant Gold Thread Cypress at home?
Main content introduction: This article shares small experiences about whether Gold Thread Cypress is suitable for planting at home and the cultivation methods and precautions for Gold Thread Cypress. Details are as follows:
Gold Thread Cypress is a colorful leaf species with high ornamental value. It has strong resistance to polluted air, making it one of the main species for park and urban绿化, widely planted by people. So how much do you know about the propagation techniques and planting techniques of Gold Thread Cypress? Below, the editor of China Landscape Network introduces in detail the planting methods and propagation techniques of Gold Thread Cypress.
【Propagation Techniques of Gold Thread Cypress】The propagation methods of Gold Thread Cypress include cutting and sowing.
One, cutting method:
Gold Thread Cypress cuttings are easier to root than Dragon Cypress. The highest survival rate is when cuttings are done in the rainy season.
Select the current year's top branches as cuttings, 7 to 10 centimeters long, and insert them into plain sand pots immediately after collection. The depth of insertion is 1/3 or half of the cutting length. After insertion, water thoroughly, cover the pot opening with a slightly larger plastic bag, tie it tightly, and place it in a shaded area. Open the plastic bag once a day for ventilation; after 10 days, open it every other day; after 20 days, open it every three days. Each time the bag is opened, spray water on the leaves and check the moisture of the matrix. If the matrix is dry, water appropriately, but do not waterlog to avoid rotting of the cuttings.
After a month, cut a small piece of the plastic bag corner to allow natural ventilation. By this time, the cuttings have formed callus and started to root. Once confirmed alive, remove the bag and keep the cutting matrix moist.
After survival, apply a light fertilizer every half month or 20 days. Do not transplant in the same year and overwinter the whole pot indoors.
Plant in the ground after Qingming (April 4th) of the first year. The seedlings grow fast. Since young seedlings have weak waterlogging tolerance, choose a non-waterlogged area for the seedbed, dig deep and apply base fertilizer, and plant with a spacing of 15-20 centimeters.
Strengthen weeding and water and fertilizer management between seedlings. The seedlings can grow to 25 centimeters tall by the end of the year. Dig up the seedlings before freezing and transplant them into a cold cellar for overwintering. In the second spring, pot them for cultivation, and they will form a spherical shape for ornamental purposes year by year.
Two, sowing method:
The seeds germinate easily, and the seedling raising is simple. Collect seeds in October, remove the seed coat, take out the seeds, and put them in a cloth bag to dry in a cool and ventilated place.
After Qingming (April 4th) of the following year, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours, remove the immature seeds floating on the surface, take out the mature seeds sinking at the bottom, put them in a container, cover with plastic film or old cloth, and place in a warm place to germinate.
Turn the seeds over once a day. If the seed coat turns white, spray a little water. When 1/3 of the seeds have germinated, they can be sown. Use a shallow pot or wooden box as the sowing container, fill with fertile cultivation soil, level and press, cover the soil with a thickness of 1:3 times the diameter of the seeds, water thoroughly after sowing, and cover with plastic film. After the seedlings have emerged, pay attention to loosening the soil, weeding, and thinning the seedlings. No need for topdressing, and the management is relatively simple.
The overwintering method for field planting is the same as for cuttings, but the long main roots should be shortened when planted in the ground. The above two propagation methods can be used in pots or boxes when the quantity is small, and in ground beds when the quantity is large. However, when overwintering, the seedlings must be covered with anti-cold materials to ensure safe overwintering. It should be noted that there is a phenomenon of reverse variation in seedlings, with a variation rate of 25-30%. However, it is also possible to use the sowing method for propagation, by removing or separately cultivating the seedlings for greening or as rootstock for grafting Dragon Cypress.
【Planting Method of Gold Thread Cypress】
1. Cutting time: Spring and autumn are both suitable for cutting. Spring cutting is from early March to mid-April, and autumn cutting is from late September to mid-October.
2. Preparation of nursery: Select a plot with deep soil layer, loose texture, good drainage, rich in humus, and a slightly acidic pH of 6 to 6.8. Apply 20 kilograms of superphosphate per mu as a base fertilizer, spray 50% carbendazim wettable powder 500-800 times liquid on the soil for disinfection, cover with plastic film for 3-4 days, and it can be used after揭去 the film for 1 week.
3. Selection of cuttings: Select 1-2-year-old branches from the middle and upper parts of young trees as cuttings. These branches have a high content of nutrients, grow vigorously, and are easy to survive.
4. Cutting treatment: Cut the branches into cuttings 8-12 centimeters long and remove the lower leaves. To promote root growth, the base of the cuttings can be treated with a growth regulator.
5. Cutting: Insert the treated cuttings into the nursery, with the cutting depth being 1/2 to 2/3 of the cutting length and the spacing of 10 centimeters by 15 centimeters. Press the soil with your hands and water thoroughly. To prevent the cuttings from losing water, cut the branches, treat and cut them immediately.
