How to fertilize Cyclamen when it blooms
As a star variety of indoor ornamental flowers in winter, the management of full flowering period of cyclamen is directly related to the quality of flowering and ability to reflower. Scientific fertilization strategies combined with post-flowering pruning can keep this bulbous plant blooming for up to five months. This article will analyze in detail the maintenance points in three key stages to help you create a colorful Cyclamen landscape. 1. Three stages of precise fertilization during flowering period 1. Nutritional reserve during the bud incubation period When a rice-like protrusion appears in the center of the leaf cluster (about early November), use a compound fertilizer with a ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium of 1:2:2 to irrigate the roots once every 15 days. Supplementing nitrogen at this time can promote the elongation of flower stems and avoid the phenomenon of "pinching arrows". It is recommended to spray leaves with 500 times liquid calcium and magnesium fertilizer to enhance the plant's lodging resistance. 2. When 3-5cm of flower stems for promoting and controlling flower stems are extracted during the arrow extraction period (about mid-December), use 800 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution to be sprayed on the leaves, once a week for 3 consecutive weeks. Stopping nitrogen fertilizer (G-Y) at this time and combining with 6 hours of scattered light per day can effectively control the plant height within the ideal range of 25-35cm. The temperature needs to be maintained at 15-18℃ to prevent excessive growth. 3. Nutrient control in full flowering period, stop fertilizer immediately after the first flower opens, and maintain a slightly moist state of the substrate (water content of 40%). Reducing the ambient temperature to 12-15℃ can extend the flowering period of a single flower to 20 days. Pay attention to rotating the flowerpot regularly to avoid the crown of the plant type due to phototaxis. 2. Post-flowering rejuvenation management system 1. Precise pruning technique At the end of flowering period (about April of the following year), oblique shearing is used to remove residual flowers from the base 2 cm, and the yellow leaves are simultaneously removed to retain 5-7 functional leaves. Apply charcoal powder to the wound to prevent decay, and control water for 3 days after pruning to promote wound healing. 2. Environmental control during the dormant period will gradually reduce watering starting from May, and remove the seed balls after the leaves naturally wither. Soak in carbendazim for 20 minutes, dry in the shade, and store in a ventilated environment at 15℃. Check the status of the seed balls every month to keep the sand bed free of water from micro-tides. 3. Re-flowering activation Prepare to soak the seed balls in clear water for 6 hours in mid-September and then re-pot. Use a substrate of peat: perlite =3:1 and maintain an environment of 18-20℃. After the new leaves are unfolded, brassinolide diluted 2000 times was applied once a week for 3 consecutive weeks.
Through scientific fertilizer and water management and life cycle control, cyclamen can achieve continuous flowering year after year. By mastering the three key links of pre-flowering nutrient reserve, precise flowering support, and systematic post-flowering maintenance, even novices can cultivate high-quality plants with a flowering period of up to half a year.
