The editor will share with everyone the experience of caring for green plants in terms of how to properly care for a potted lotus and the planting methods and precautions for lotus flowers. Let's get to know more about it together.
Summer is approaching, and when it comes to the representative flower of summer, many people will undoubtedly think of the lotus! Lotuses are very popular, but they require certain conditions to grow. Today, let's talk about how to plant lotuses so that we can enjoy them at home!
1. Seed Treatment
The seeds of the lotus are hidden in the pod. We usually call the seeds of the lotus "莲子" (lianzi). The seeds are tightly wrapped in the pod, and we need to extract them manually instead of waiting for them to fall off by themselves.
After digging out the seeds, we cannot directly plant them in the soil. The seed coat is relatively hard, so before planting, we need to rub the prominent part of the lianzi on the floor to create a crack, which helps the seed break through the seed coat and germinate.
After rubbing, we soak the seeds in clean water to promote germination, changing the water frequently. After about a week, the lotus seeds will germinate, and then we can plant them.
2. Planting
Before planting lotuses, we need to prepare the soil matrix. We all know that lotuses are not stained by the mud they grow out of, so the soil matrix for lotus growth should be pond mud. Dilute the pond mud slightly and mix it into a paste, then you can bury the germinated seeds in it. After burying them, make sure to keep the pond mud moist and prevent it from drying out.

3. Choosing a Pot and Adding Water
When planting lotuses, the choice of container is quite important. Choose the size of the container according to the size of the lotus we are planting. If we are planting a larger water lily, we should choose a large-mouthed ceramic or plastic pot, and if we are planting a smaller lotus, like a bowl lotus, we can use a smaller container.
When the lotus has grown three leaves, we can start adding water. Don't add too much water; just add enough to reach under the leaves so they can float on the surface. As the lotus grows, we can gradually increase the water level until the lotus reaches a certain height, then it will be a "clear water lily."
