How to raise goldfish and spider plants in winter
Goldfish spider is deeply loved for its unique goldfish shaped flowers and hanging growth characteristics, and winter is a critical period for its growth. Improper maintenance in cold weather may easily lead to leaf shedding and flowering obstruction. Mastering scientific maintenance methods can allow plants to survive safely through the winter and continue to bloom. This paper systematically analyzes the key points of winter conservation from four dimensions: light management, moisture control, temperature regulation, and soil optimization. The core four elements of winter maintenance of goldfish and spider plants: scattered light promotes flower bud differentiation In winter, the plant should be moved to the south-facing window sill and receive scattered light for 4-6 hours a day. Use the "rotating maintenance method" to rotate the flowerpot 180° every week to ensure uniform light reception in all directions. Pay attention to avoid direct sunlight at noon and use gauze curtains to filter out strong light. When there is insufficient light, the LED plant fill light can be replenished at intervals, and the best effect is 2 hours a day. Water management: Dry and wet cycle water control adopts the "knuckle detection method": the index finger is inserted into the soil and the second joint is watered when it is dry. The water temperature needs to be consistent with room temperature to avoid cold water irritating the roots. The northern heating room can be equipped with a humidifier to maintain 50% air humidity, or a tray can be spread with wet pebbles and transpiration to increase humidity. Watering time should be 10 a.m. on sunny days to avoid low-temperature water accumulation at night. Temperature maintenance: Gradient temperature control and establish a three-layer protection system to prevent freezing injury: ① Maintain 15-18℃ during the day to promote growth; ② No lower than 12℃ at night to prevent dormancy; ③ Wear double-layer plastic bags for insulation at extreme low temperatures. Be careful to avoid placing the plant next to the air conditioner outlet or radiator, as sudden changes in temperature may lead to physiological leaf fall. Soil optimization: Recommended ratio for slightly acidic substrate maintenance: 40% humus soil +30% river sand +20% perlite +10% pine needles. Use pH test paper to test monthly and maintain the range of 5.5-6.5. Ferrous sulfate solution diluted by 500 times can be regularly watered to adjust the pH value. Stop changing pots in winter, but loosen the soil once a month to increase breathability.
By accurately controlling the four major factors of light, moisture, temperature and soil, and regularly checking the status of the leaves (immediately adjusting the maintenance plan when yellow leaves appear), the goldfish spider can not only survive the winter safely, but also continue to bloom around the Spring Festival. It is recommended to establish a maintenance log to record changes in temperature and humidity to accumulate data support for maintenance in the coming year.
