How to cultivate a rubber plant

Today's sharing: topics related to the cultivation of rubber plants and the maintenance and precautions of rubber plants, including the introduction by the editor.

In winter, when the temperature is low, rubber plants do not grow. Many people keep them indoors even if the temperature is a bit higher, but their growth is still slow and not very good. Now it is about to be spring. If you want your rubber plant to grow larger after spring and become a big tree with thick and shiny leaves, you should pay attention to four points as soon as possible. These four points are key to maintenance, and if you do them well, your rubber plant will definitely grow rapidly.

1. Sunlight

Generally, in winter, most rubber plants are placed in a place with weak sunlight indoors. In fact, rubber plants are typical light-loving plants. If you want them to grow rapidly in spring, they must be exposed to sufficient sunlight. With adequate sunlight, their leaves will grow larger and shinier, and the leaves will be able to photosynthesize, resulting in more developed roots. They are not afraid of strong sunlight in summer, as long as the pot soil does not lack water. Now, we should gradually increase sunlight exposure to let them adapt to strong sunlight, so there won't be any problems.

2. Watering

The trunk of a rubber plant is thick and the leaves are large and fleshy. Many people are afraid to water them, but in fact, they require a lot of water. To achieve rapid growth, you must ensure sufficient water. Generally, at home, after spring warms up and windows can be opened for ventilation and sunlight, you just need to water the plant thoroughly when the pot soil is completely dry. This will not cause any problems, and the plant will photosynthesize well, with developed roots and beautiful new leaves.

3. Fertilization

As long as the temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius, rubber plants can grow slowly. If the temperature is above 15 degrees Celsius, they grow relatively fast, so we need to ensure sufficient fertilizer. Since they are mainly ornamental plants, we should choose the right fertilizer. Generally, we should choose a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content and no lack of other elements, such as "Flower More No. 10." We can also use our own fermented bean cake or peanut cake fertilizer water, applied every two to three months. Adding a little nutrient-rich water to the plant can promote rapid growth of buds and branches. If you don't have this, you can also use a multi-element nutrient solution, although growth will be slower.

4. Pruning

Usually, we cultivate rubber plants to look like big trees, so we need to prune them reasonably during the maintenance process. If you don't prune them, one branch can grow very long and basically won't produce side buds. So, during their growth, after leaving a tall trunk, we should cut off the top. Multiple side branches will quickly grow from the top, and you can cut off the side branches that grow from the bottom. Then it will quickly grow buds. After growing tall, cut off the top again, leaving about 20 centimeters, and continue pruning until the whole plant is full of side branches and lush. At that point, we can stop pruning, and it will grow into a棒棒糖 shape or a big tree shape.

Pruning is essential during the growing season of rubber plants; otherwise, one stem can grow up to the roof, which would look very ugly. After proper pruning, you need to ensure that fertilizer, water, and sunlight are not lacking. As long as the temperature is not too low, it will keep growing leaves that become larger and larger. I have cultivated a棒棒糖-shaped rubber plant that is now very beautiful and about two meters tall. I will share it with you when I have time.
