Key Points of Rose Cultivation and Management Techniques
This article introduces the key points of rose cultivation and management techniques, as well as related topics on rose planting methods in flower cultivation. Below is a detailed introduction.
As everyone knows, spring is a very important growing season for roses. Proper maintenance during this period lays a good foundation for later growth. Roses have certain management requirements at each stage of growth, such as pruning and fertilizing. If pruning is done properly in winter and sufficient fertilizing is applied at the beginning of spring, the blooming will definitely be beautiful!
If you have missed these tasks, there's no need to worry. It's still not too late to start now. Here, I would like to share some of my experiences and insights in growing roses, hoping to help new rose enthusiasts!
1. Supplement fertilizers. Nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, and compound fertilizer are essential for rose cultivation. I usually like to ferment some rice washing water, enzyme solutions, and cake fertilizer water, which can be used as compound fertilizers; monopotassium phosphate and Huaduo No.2 fertilizer are good phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, commonly used during the bud formation stage. If you want to take shortcuts, you can buy specialized rose fertilizer online. Learning to grow flowers can be a gradual process, but you cannot be lazy when it's time to fertilize, or the roses will not bloom properly due to malnutrition.
2. Pruning. This is a vast task and cannot be fully explained in a few sentences. I will gradually explain it to everyone in the future. The most important pruning for roses is winter pruning. If you didn't prune in winter, you can do it now. Unlike the heavy pruning in winter, the current pruning should be light to avoid affecting flowering.
Light pruning involves cutting off thin, weak, dry, and diseased branches. If you are reluctant to cut, you can wait until after flowering to剪, removing the残花 and dense, excessive branches, increasing ventilation, and also preventing pests.
3. Pest prevention and control. Roses are a haven for pests, and it's almost impossible to completely avoid them. Therefore, start early with pest prevention. Whether your roses have pest infestations or not, it's advisable to have some pesticides on hand for prevention. Identify the commonly used agents for roses, prepare them accordingly, and spray the branches and leaves of the roses at regular intervals as per the instructions. Roses planted in the ground may have more pests, while those on balconies might be better off.

4. Enhance ventilation and expose to sunlight. Roses should be grown in well-ventilated, sunny areas, such as rooftops, open balconies, or gardens. Frankly, I don't recommend growing them indoors, as it can be unhygienic when pests are present, and roses don't thrive well indoors due to poor ventilation and lighting conditions, which can affect the blooming results.
5. Water management. Water roses based on the dryness of the soil surface and the local weather conditions. Water when the soil surface is dry and the weather is clear. If you're unsure about watering, you can insert a bamboo stick into the pot and check it occasionally. If the part inserted into the soil is dry and light in color, it's time to water a bit.
After discussing the basic maintenance of roses, I would like to recommend one of my favorite roses—Zhenzhao. Many friends always ask me about varieties in private messages, so I will regularly introduce the advantages and disadvantages of different varieties. Today, let's start with Zhenzhao!
Advantages of Zhenzhao:
1. The flower color is ethereal, with petals that have a hint of orange in the pink, and the edges have waves. The outer petals are pink and the inner ones are red, forming a perfect bun-like shape.
